Are petrol stations having a laugh?

Just been petrol station and there was a choice of E10 petrol or super unleaded. E10 is for post 2011 cars, my car is 2010 so I didn't know if I could take the E10 forcing me to go for the more expensive super unleaded. (140.9p/litre)

Now Sainsburys inform that its not actually E10 yet, it just said so on the pump? And they've given me a little leaflet thing where you can look up your car.

But this is the thing- 5% of cars are NOT approved for E10.
So these 5% of cars because of this E10 have to select the more expensive petrol of Super Unleaded.
That seems wrong. Yes this E10 will be marvellous and all that saving carbon emissions with this bio addition, but essentially penalising the incompatible cars seems wrong. I hope all petrol stations aren't going to do this. E10 OR super Unleaded.

I put E10 in my 1992 MX5, which is definitely NOT supported.
The car has a turbo too.
I did consider a better fuel such as V-Power, but the stations near me don't have it so I decided to lose ~10hp and use normal unleaded.

The Americans have used E10 for a while now on MX5s :).

This is nowhere as bad as having to use LRP in cars designed for leaded fuel.

You could try E45.

Heard it gives a really smooth ride!

2010 cars should be ok.

The main people getting screwed over are those who run classics and bikers.

Also you'll get lower MPG, which means more petrol has to be made and in the UK we have to import all the ethanol anyway. Which more than wipes out any carbon offset. So you won't actually be saving the planet.

My 2006 car is apparently happy with E10. It’s also allowed into the low emission zone in Birmingham. It’s also allowed to deliver groceries at 7am. German engineering I guess?

The government decided it. And yes all ‘regular’ fuel is E10

Aside from the ethanol content, which is in itself ********, Petrol prices are going up quite sharply.

And this time they will have all sorts of excuses to screw us.

Oh it's because of Covid.....

Oh it's because of Brexit......

Oh it's because it's been too wet this year.....

Etc etc etc.

Spend 25k on a electric car that will be worth nothing in 15 years, that's the solution.

Or in short, it seems the best way to save the planet is for everyone to spend a lot more money. Funny that.

Enjoy it while you can, how much do you think you'll get rinsed for a litre of petrol once they want everyone to change to electric...

the rinsing started long ago with the road tax

And notice how when the price of oil goes up, prices of petrol shoot up straight away but then when oil dropped in price massively the petrol price drop was stubborn, slow and not even anywhere near in line with the drop of oil price.
