Are Projectors good for gaming?

I'm getting one for my birthday in july, i cant wait!! ive also managed to talk the misses into letting me use the lean to as a projector room, it will need a lot of work starting with taking the roof of and raising it and then doing all the walls but i know it will be well worth it as i will be able to do every thing to make it into a perfect cinema room:)

:D excellent, look forward to the pics

im sure you know but for help with ideas and stuff avforums.com is a great place to go

From reading various threads at avforums Seems to be quite a complex issue. Not in favour of the idea of using a chipboard and painting it etc. Might just try different paint combinations on the wall if i go for the projector.

Black Widow mix, black border, job done.

I have wallpaper so I'm going to get some MDF, prime it, then do Black Widow on that, with a flock tape border.

I'll just strip the wallpaper :) and use that paint combo job. I might experiment first with cream/whites - see how it looks though. If its good enough then job done :D

Already there, sold my old projector on there. will be asking for ideas or sound issues though when i start the rebuild. :D

Hrmm well im reluctant to pay £1k for a projector i just need something to replace my Samsung plasma. I quite like the idea of projectors instead of a massive tv taking up all the space. The model of plasma i have is a PS42Q97HDX which is 5 or 6 series samsung plasma. It is decent enough, good SD picture. HD picture imo isnt the best and it only does 1080i. Would the optoma hd600x picture be better than that? (bluray and games only)

Hd 600x will be ok, you need to check you or anyone else that will be using it lots doesnt suffer from "rainbow effect"

If you could stretch your budget the epson tw3200 is really good:)

too expensive :/ At a push i might get the HD200x (1080p)

But i have to think about "throw distance" with both of them i reckon. viewing distance from projector to the wall is about 12ft. (sitting 9ft or 10ft away).

Another vote for the HD200X. Blu-Rays look even more amazing than I had expected as I thought the image would be too big. Also PC gaming at 1080P is cool.

For PS3/360 it also look stunnings but some games look better than others.

Also I have a 100" electric screen from ebay which works more than well enough and only cost £115 delivered so well worth getting one of these compared to using a wall, also means you can have a TV for daytime and PJ for night if you can't have 100% darkness in the day time.

super tempting.... You reckon i could sell my tv for about £250? (samsung 42" plasma 5 or 6 series 1080i tho) I dont watch a lot of tv tbh.

Ok so i get projector. skin the wallpaper, paint white/cream/green/black widow.

Need to get a ceiling mount as well or build a shelf on the wall.

Probably also a 5m or so HDMI cable as the one i have is only 1m

sky box hdmi>projector
ps3 hdmi> projector
sound system (crappy but will have to do) optical cable > projector. there is an optical out on the hd200x yeah?

want to get it all sorted friday/saturday. Can get it next day delivery.

Sound doable? :D

I don't think there is, but not something I ever looked into as I have everything going via the amp. But you can connect the PS3/Sky directly to the sound system with the optical cable, but unless you have two inputs could be a pain as you would need to swap cables over all the time.

Optical switch would suffice
But still left with switching HDMI cables without HDMI switch
Much easier to get an amp

Why would i need to switch hdmi cables? It has 2 HDMI connections yeah? Will do ps3 and skybox hdmi to the projector and optical to the ps3 (possibly including a toslink optical switch and another optical cable)

keep the tv and invest in the projector imo :)

one on the bay currently at £335 (buy it now of £499 !!)

very tempted to get it but its used...has 109 hours of lamp usage hrmm BUT it does come with ceiling mount and 2 hdmi cables argh....

Lamps can go at any time tbh, some will last ages, others might go unexpectedly (although you can minimise some of the risk of this happening by careful use), nature of the beast with projectors. If you get one then you'll be paying for bulbs now and then if it's your primary means of watching stuff.

Thats a good price, but at 109 hours (if true) its only just broken in so ready for recalibration to get the best picture quality. It's worth playing around with contrast, brightness, etc to get it setup for your room.

Sorry for the mini hi-jack, but can anyone recommend me a reasonably priced projector which can handle 720 and is around the 350 - 400 pound mark?

I've had a hunt around online but to be honest, I wouldn't know what to look out for.

Cheers :)
