Are SSDs dependent on other components?

I came here for advice not long ago when asking about a new graphics card and processor, and discovered that to get the ones I wanted I'd also need a new motherboard. With all the advice I got from here, I bought the things I needed but I'd also like to get a solid state drive rather than the HD I have now. But I was wondering - are SSDs also reliant on being compatible with a motherboard as well?

The motherboard I'm going to have installed is an MSI B450M Pro-VDH. The SSD I was looking at getting is a Crucial MX500 1TB SSD. Will these be compatible with each other?

Hi ironic...

Yes. The Crucial MX500 is a SATA 3 drive and requires a SATA port (SATA 3 to run at its best). So you are good to go.

p.s. the MX500 is an excellent SSD. I have an MX500 as the boot drive in my Lenovo T450s laptop

d_breenen makes a good point, the MX500 is an excellent SSD and excellent value for money but you could get a super fast NVMe drive like the Samsung 970 EVO and put it into your mobo's M.2 NVMe slot

I've been loving my Samsung 970 EVO Plus ever since it arrived about a month ago. You won't go far wrong with a Samsung SSD, press the buy button. ;)
