Are the i7 920s as good as older ones

Yes it's bound to beat the i7 920 -
i7 920 > 2.66GHz turbo about 3.2GHz
i7 860 > 2.80GHz turbo about 3.46GHz
It would be a different story if the i7 920 was at 2.8GHz + turbo, once you OC it 4.00GHz, it's still the king of the hill. :cool:

How long did it take you to learn overclocking m8 ?
 
Sure it's not your harddrive/s causing that?

Im using F1 hard drives but it is possible something is causing bottle neck but by the time i have finished everythink will e replaced just waiting on new psu to arrive as im changing from a 430watt to a 650watt.
then cpu video memory and cooler possibley the H50 not sure on that for definet.

I should say going to windows 64bit did help on the buffer under run a bit but didnt solve it all together.
