Are there any gaming sites that you avoid?

I was just wondering if there were any gaming sites that people tend to avoid. And for what reasons.

I won't use Kotaku, Polygon, Gamespot and IGN.

These above sites I find are either to political in there views. Full of clickbait, or I just can't trust what I read in general.

I avoid sites and choose people instead - particularly on youtube. People like Jim Sterling, TotalBiscuit, Super Bunnyhop, Joseph Anderson, Matthewmatosis etc are my go to for good reviews.

All of them. I'm not too clued up on how the whole review thing works with game sites but I'm under the impression that a lot of the big ones like IGN get paid for positive articles? I can't be bothered with that. I get my reviews and advice on what games to get next from this forum and friends.

If it's about games I typically just look for game footage post release and see if I think it'd be fun. I'm increasingly finding the reviewers I use to rely on feeling more commercial than some of the sites and magazines are.

I used to love reading reviews for a game I've just purchased but have since learned that the less you know about a game before playing the better and reviews tend to give too much away for me so I've stopped reading them all together.

Generally just google reviews for games now. Used to like PCGamer but it's got too click bait/stuffing as many ads as they can into a page then offering their ad free subscription.

Tend to go towards PC Gamer and Kotaku ,with Rock Paper Shotgun getting used less and less.

I always stay away from Polygon though as their never-offend,constant pandering,SJW nonsense takes priority over gaming these days.

Podcasts get the most time now as I listen on the go.

i look at all sites then rather than looking at the reviews/numbers just look at the games content & go does it look good? (i even mute videos sometimes :)

I browse most but take the majority of stuff with a pinch of salt - I don't ever recall such a time seeing so much trash posted, especially on kotaku - it reads like a few autistic kids getting together for an introduction to blogging than an actually gaming news site.

Polygon, Gamasutra, Kotaku, Arstechnica and Gamesindustry.biz are my usual reads.

All pretty good, I certainly don't feel the need to boycott any of them because of the occasional duff article.

Yeah lost a lot of faith in places due to gamer gate, i missed gamer gate only read up about it afterwards, obviously avoid Kotaku, not heard of the others in this thread that people avoid

I don't really watch any reviews and tend to check out user reviews on Steam and forums etc. Youtubers are no better than the larger gaming sites for reviews. They are mostly sponsored and the ones that aren't rely on views, so tend to exaggerate problems or go all out and trash it to make the video more interesting. Total Biscuits 'reviews' are sometimes useful for seeing what the gfx options are like and a rough idea of performance, but i wouldn't trust his opinion on any game.

Thats a good point. But I do find that Kotaku and Polygon have to many duff articles for my liking.

Another thing that I like to do regardless of site. I like to read through the article to find others opinions on it. In a lot of cases the comments are more informative or correct than the article it's self. Here's a good example of a less informative article posted on PC Gamer.

I don't touch review sites as their reviewers frequently receive kickbacks from developers and publishers, including free games to review, consoles, tickets to events, and other such things. Also, I've heard that game reviewers who have left bad reviews for certain games have found themselves blacklisted by certain developers who won't allow them to review a game before release anymore. This causes reviewers to always take the safe road and never give you their true opinion. After all this, you can see why gaming review sites are completely untrustworthy.

Not especially, and although I still prefer to rely on smaller reviewer type channels than ones like IGN and so on, I will essentially watch any informative piece on a game or series.
