Are you a dirty minger?

How the hell are people showering in 4 minutes!?

1 minute 'soak'
1 minute wash hair
1 minute body wash
1 minute 'soak'

I missed my second shower on Saturday due to being out for dinner in London and not getting back until very late; while I survived I think I will stick to my comparatively quick 2 shower routine when possible.

15 to 20 mins in shower for me. Got to have time to warm up in there, contemplation time, then the washing process, then more standing time because you know when you turn the water off you'll be cold so have to mentally prepare for it.

You don't understand because you're making the assumption that the only reason to have a shower is that you are so dirty that you need one.

I agree that it's not needed. Washing is barely needed at all. Not washing won't kill a person.

I think that's the core of our differing views - you regard washing as something to be done only when you're very dirty, so dirty that washing is necessary. I regard washing as pleasant and also as being useful at a lower level of dirtiness.

We may as well say that showering less often contributed to a reduced chance of winning the lottery or a greater chance of being kidnapped by aliens. If we're making stuff up for the "let's say" thing, we may as well make it amusing.

The idea that you shouldn't wash because it removes dirt protecting you from disease is downright medieval (and, as far as I know, uncommon even then). As for apparent age, I'm 50 and show very little sign of aging despite having very pale skin (which tends to show aging faster than darker skin). People generally think I'm in my mid 30s. Washing twice a day with a mild detergent for sensitive skin shouldn't be a problem for someone who doesn't have a skin problem.

£2.50 for 500ml. I might be increasing my spending over minimum by £1 a week! Oh noes!

No, it isn't.

There you have a point. But it's a point I don't care about.

I think your fear is the one you (and only you, since it's all in your head) stated in the post I was replying to:

Where have I stated that you should only wash when your very dirty? And if that is the case after you have had a shower when you've finished work by the morning are you very dirty again? Answer that one, unless someone has coughed on you lol!

I'm guessing you haven't bothered to read any of the links of provided or tried to comprehend that their might actually be some science behind not needing to shower too much, you want to shower twice a day that's cool, but I just don't believe you need to do so, like I said I think it is a waste of time, money, and energy, you don't care that's fine also.

Obviously your definition of 'very dirty' rests more in your head than on your skin it seems.

I also use the shower for 'thinking time'.... A great big 'think' is sometimes what is needed to start the day.
I can't even go to the shower to have a cheeky "think". Quite often the wife will burst in to use the toilet whilst I'm deep in "thought" and I quickly have to turn around and pretend I'm washing my nether regions. I should invest in frosted glass.

Eww flakey daily shower people.. :p

Shumack also warned that a hot daily shower could do more damage than good, saying: “Overwashing causes 'defatting' of the skin – getting rid of the natural body oils we produce to protect the skin cells. This can cause actual damage making them more permeable to bacteria or viruses, precipitating itchy skin, dryness, flakiness and worsening conditions like eczema.”

In the post I replied to, of course:

[..] What is happening from then until the morning that is making you so dirty again that you need another shower?

And if that is the case after you have had a shower when you've finished work by the morning are you very dirty again? Answer that one, unless someone has coughed on you lol!

You said showering is something to be done only when it's needed because the person is so dirty. You. Not me. So why are you asking me a question based on your criteria when you know I disagree with it? That makes no sense.

You also said it weakens the immune system and prematurely ages people. Did any of your links provide scientific evidence for those claims? The one I read was a beauty article, not a science article.

About as much sense as you taking a shower when your perfectly clean then? Either your taking a shower in the morning because your dirty or for funsies? I asked you a simple question.

Plenty of the articles have their sources stated, the first one for example, Elaine Larson professor of Epidemiology, other articles include Microbiologist Martin Blaser (https://www.theatlantic.com/video/index/486161/i-stopped-showering/), Professor Stephen Shumack The President of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, who stated "you should only shower when you need to", there are plenty of educated people out there that know a lot more about this topic than you making similar statements based off their research.

I need to wash at least once a day. If I exercise I have to shower after too.

To those that don't wash everyday, do you include brushing your teeth in that?

edit: The only time I'm a bit of a "dirty minger" is on a lazy day off where I might not wash until the evening, as I just laze about. But if I go out I wash without fail.

No, you didn't. You made a slew of wild accusations about people being crazy, about showering harming a person's immune system and prematurely aging them and then you asked how I got so dirty overnight that I needed a shower. Now you're adding a second option - funsies or very dirty. That's not a simple question, since it contains the assumption that the only possible states are perfectly clean and very dirty, so dirty that you need to take the great risk of having a shower (which ages you and weakens your immune system).

If you hadn't been so wild in your accusations and false dichotomies, I might have taken you seriously enough to thoroughly read all the articles you linked to. But a quick read was enough to assure me that you're wrong even according to the selected sources you chose. Since I don't have any skin problems, well, I don't have any skin problems. Also, your sources differ - some say don't shower more than 10 minutes a day if you have a serious skin problem, some say never shower or wash your hair and only wash if it's absolutely necessary and some are in between.

I never made a slew of accusations I'm afraid, my original post obviously hit a nerve with you and you decided to go on one like a immature child misquoting me, and taking things out of context, I'm not going to keep repeating myself it's getting boring now, I gave my opinion, I provided some links that backed up my claim that showering too much isn't good for, (like most things in life a balance is required) you have provided nothing, you choose not to believe it because when you look in the mirror you see a 30 year old stud, tbh life goes on, time to put the kettle on, enjoy your morning shower.

I never made a slew of accusations I'm afraid,

You kicked off with saying that people who have two showers a day are insane and then threw in some crazy stemming from your own wildly irrational fear of people in the street beating you with "battens" for not showering twice a day, a wildly irrational fear that you have projected onto your target group of people who shower at least once a day. Who you regard as insane and crazy, like you said.

Here, I'll quote you again:

People on here must sweat like the niagara falls if they feel they need two showers a day!, I think that's insane, and it honestly can't be healthy for your skin, when we was kids growing up we would have sunday bath once a week with shared bath water!, and I know in those days it really wasn't that uncommon, people are way to obsessive about cleanliness today, yes it's important but to a degree of course, this fear we have in modern society that if you skip a shower people in the street will beat you with battens calling you a smelly ******* is crazy.

You then went on about showering being very dangerous since it (according to you) weakens your immune system and prematurely ages you. Ive quoted that as well, of course.

my original post obviously hit a nerve with you

Accusing someone of being insane and crazy is generally a good way of getting a response. Are you just trolling? If so, well done.

and you decided to go on one like a immature child misquoting me, and taking things out of context,

That is a lie. Simple as that. I haven't misquoted you. Or are you arguing that the mods (some of whom you think are insane and crazy) are secretly editing your posts so that they're different when I quote them?

I'm not going to keep repeating myself it's getting boring now,

I'm repeating you too, since I'm quoting you, and it is indeed getting boring.

I gave my opinion,

Yes...your opinion that I and many other people are insane and crazy. Did you really expect the people you were accusing of being insane and crazy to all agree with you or ignore you?

I provided some links that backed up my claim that showering too much isn't good for, (like most things in life a balance is required)

If that was what you had done and if that was the position you had taken, there wouldn't have been any argument. But it's not what you did and it's not the position you have taken. The links you provided did argue that showering too much isn't good for you and that a balance is required between too much cleaning and too little. But your position was that showering is harmful and that people who shower at least once a day are insane and crazy. Which is not the position that the links you provided supported.

you have provided nothing, you choose not to believe it because when you look in the mirror you see a 30 year old stud, tbh life goes on, time to put the kettle on, enjoy your morning shower.

Actually, I don't have a mirror and I have never been a "stud". But don't let reality get in the way of your silly fantasies.

Go on, make up some more silly nonsense about me and post it. I'm getting some amusement from it.
