I've always been a very impatient and impulsive person and i'm just wondering if anyone else is content with their computer build?

I've had mine now for about 4 weeks and already purchased new ram, new graphics card and 2 new HDDs.

Not because i NEED them, Just because i WANT them.

I have heard of people saying "it's been 4 years, time for an upgrade" but how do you make a PC last that long? There is always something new / different out. How do you not give into temptation and buy more stuff?

I now have a 6970 2gb card and a 7770 1gb card i'm trying to sell in order to get a GTX 750Ti (as it's better for my folding@Home...

haha so basically stop being so impulsive!? but there's no fun! I think i just get a bit over-excited about things.

On a serious note how old is everyone's machine?

I'm normally ok for about 12-18 months or so, then I need to change somthing else I get bored...

Even at this timescale, its not really value for money.

If your upgrading after 4 weeks or so, then you probably need to get a grip else your going to have no house and a super computer.

Yeah that seems to be the direction i'm heading.

I have managed to convince a friend of mine to let me build him a new PC as he likes mine so that kind of fills a bit of a need for new things but now i want his new case!
At the moment i justify it as that i am tweaking it until i get what suits me!

I think the move to NVID is going to be the right one for me.

Just dont do it unless you got money to burn. Keep cool and resist until you will get something to show for your money...

This is fun :D

Case 4 years
PSU 3 years
GPU 9 months
CPU 5 years
MOBO 5 years
RAM 3 years
SSD 4 months

I'm getting some value there I think.

Good effort man.

EDITED because I guess your specs then saw your sig and they were all wrong lol

CPU, ram, MB and psu 4 years
GPU 2 months
Case 3 years ish new fans lately though they were getting noisy hehe

I'm in two minds to upgrade atm I was definitely going to when skylake came out but its a little underwhelming really

Is it ever going to be a good time to upgrade from the 2500K?

if you got one of those, 5GHz ones, then I don't think its anywhere close yet... if like me, your were stuck at 4.3GHz, its not overly hard to justify, though not logical...

I wouldn't say i have money to burn but i have money burning a hole in my pocket as soon as it goes in there.

I just feel that i made a bit of a mistake with my current build (hense getting a new gpu)

I'm content with my PC, lost interest in upgrading it really. As long as it works and isn't slow, it's fine. My impulsive buying and discontentment has moved onto more expensive things that offer me more entertainment (for now). :(
