Are you content?

I rarely do full builds now, mainly adding bits like SSD's etc.

I really kicked myself at the weekend though. Browsing the bay on Saturday and 'watching' a 3770K at £70 and a 4820K at £100, I thought 'O well' they will sell well, they had seven hours to go. They did not and were relisted. I should have put the hammer down but did not.

Discontented much. :mad:

Are you married
Do you have kids
Are you rich
Do you have other responsibilities
Does your favourite upcoming game requirements exceed your current hw

All these and more determine whether you can upgrade every couple of weeks. Either that or you've built the wrong system in the first place.
 
Not entirely content. My Corsair 800D doesn't seem to have enough ventilation going into the case, which I found out when I was playing tombraider at 4K, obviously my crossfire 7950 was pumping too much heat into the case. Maybe some new fans/holes are needed. With 4 exhaust fans (1 back, 3 top[rad]) and only 1 large intake fan (bottom) there does seem to be a short fall there. Not entirely sure I wanna include the gpu's into my loop as that's rather costly.
 
Running an old i5 750 with an HD4890. I had an Xbox 360 so never really updated the PC much.

I don't think I could stand being stuck at 30fps on so many games now though, so I'm going to build a living room gaming PC for the TV.

Looking forward to updating more often.
 
I'm content with what I have, not feeling the need to upgrade at all. I bought a new hard disk over the weekend as I'd nearly run out of space for photos. I did a big overhaul from a phenom II to an i7 4820K / X79 system 2 years ago. Should last around 6 years. GPU will be next, but even that is probably near 2 years off. I just tinker with other stuff where the cost to tweak is less and i get more tangible benefits. I also spend time using the pc instead of taking it to bits. The water cooling loop makes life harder anyway as it's a nightmare to drain and refill to make tweaks.

Case: 2 years
PSU: 4 years
CPU: 2 years
Mobo: 2 years
SSD: 4 years
HDD: 6 years down to 1 day
Ram: 4 years
Cooling: 2 years
GPU: 2 years
Monitor: 7 years

Current system is grand, oldest parts are probably the ram and mobo. But I'm moving over to an X99 setup soon. Not sure just yet wether to keep or sell the board, cpu and ram in sig.

I now have a 6970 2gb card and a 7770 1gb card i'm trying to sell in order to get a GTX 750Ti (as it's better for my folding@Home...

You're probably not just compulsive with buying hardware, but also addicted to doing it. The question is; what void does your PC upgrading compulsion fill? :p

Only itch I had was an SSD and now I have one I am content, well until it's nearly full :(

I know I need a new GPU and monitor but I am not playing enough games at the moment to warrant it. I'm more patient than most :p
 
I don't really have an upgrade itch ever. I have more of a "spend money on Gumtree PCs, upgrade them to see how many fps I can get for my £££, play around with them for a bit and then break them down and sell them" itch.

I used to upgrade on a regular basis (at least once a year), but now the performance increases don't warrant the spend. For my usage anyway.

128gb evo 850

I'm about to overhaul all my fans as they're over 6 years old and some are rattling.

Now I only upgrade when I'm forced to, either by a motherboard failing or Valve bringing out a new game that I can't run. Until HL3 happens, I doubt I'll upgrade.

I have two Haswell PC's (both bought from the MM) Oldest bits in my PC's are the cases & the optical drives. (4-5 years old) Members of my family usually force me to 'upgrade' (as in I buy new & they get the hand me downs) I'm not tempted to buy Skylake & its successors for a while yet.

I'm usually pretty bad for this, but I'm pretty set for now.

I recently upgraded my cpu and bought a 980ti, but other than that my components are all the same since sandybridge launched. Some of my HDD are much older.

But I'm already debating consolidating my drives and buying bigger ones, and if I spend enough time reading about x99 then I'll be at risk of buying a new rig.

I do feel happy with my rig now though. I only plan to get a second 980ti in the next year or so.
 
I geared my PC toward 1080p at the time of building it, 1 year 8 months later its still running games in 1080p without a problem in high or ultra settings, the RAM, SSD and PSU must be 3 years old now, salvaged from the previous build

Due to the cost of GPUs to power resolutions over 1080p and the stagnated CPU hardware market, games being more geared toward consoles with PC an afterthought in most titles I can see me keeping this setup another year unless something fails or there is finally a GPU or CPU worth upgrading to
