Are you dumb?

Got 141 which I was happy with but as it's not that accurate feels like a waste of time. Just went through the test again clicking the last answer on every one and got 200 so I agree that it's more down to time than correct answers.

I don't think it's a very good test of IQ, it doesn't even state what scale it is and it's overly weighted on speed of completion.

My Mensa result came out at 159 (Cattell III B test).

I'd like to think mensa is more than a series of questions about numbers, sequences and patterns is it?

Can you train for an IQ test? can intelligence be learned or are we measuring it wrong.

something makes me think some of the deepest thinkers of history would not be very good at these internet iq tests

It's similar, but longer and imho harder than the one linked. You take two tests, both supervised in a controlled environement (no dictionaries, calculators, pen or paper etc), one of which centers on diagramatic reasoning and the other on verbal reasoning. Each is an hour long and a score that results in the top 2% on EITHER paper qualifies you for Mensa membership.

You can practice the test, but it only really enables you to get used to the style of questions and in reality it's shown to only make a couple of marks difference.

I never renewed my membership after the 1yr free post "qualification" lapsed - I was just curious about my ability and found the membership didn't offer me anything I would make use of.

Some of the "deepest thinkers" have had thier IQ's measured, and there is a correlation with high IQ scores. Interestingly, there's also a correlation between high IQ and a lack of social skills, which is why a high IQ does not guarantee success in the workplace. Many with a high IQ are borderline autistic - I'm dyslexic and have higher functioning autism but I'm still getting A+'s for my assignments on my degree for example.

You have an IQ of 158

Some of the questions shouldn't really be in a IQ test as they require knowledge, a true IQ test shouldn't require any knowledge not supplied by the test.

Still IQ is a poor system anyway given been age weighted, meaning some who is 10 with an IQ of 100 is less intelligent than an 11 year old with IQ of 100.

So you can't directly compare people unless you are the same age.

Meh, what is intelligence really? Having calculator brain power is different from being creative, which is also different from actual perseverance and getting stuff done, which is also different from being likable and successful.

This is the problem.

"Intelligence" is one of those things that you know when you see it, but is also really very difficult to define.

Standardised IQ tests do not test intelligence as such. They test an individuals ability to survive and prosper in a technically sophisticated hierarchical society.

That is after all what IQ tests evolved to test.

Scores between 80 and 120 are pretty good predictors of how an individual might actually perform socio-economically.

Outside this range it becomes less clear. generally people who score less than 80 are going to struggle (Though occasionally you do get low IQ scorers who nevertheless manage to do really very well in their own field)

A high IQ scorer certainly has unusual abilities but the extent to which this might benefit day to day life is questionable.

At the high end, a High IQ score doesn't necessarily correlate with high levels of objective achievement

141. neat but probably not true and pointless even if it is true. hooray!
Also if I choose all of the answers randomly I get 74.

Edit: yaaaaay I can have a 198 iq score if I do that select the last one thing. Amazing.

The scoring seems very generous for people looking at the scores on here. Not saying people are dumb more that there is a very high amount of very high scores and the test is skewed to make people feel better about themselves and get other people to do the test.

IQ tests don't really test intelligence anyway they test one facet of brain ability and are designed with a prejudice towards having certain knowledge pre-requisites.
