I'd like to think mensa is more than a series of questions about numbers,sequences and patterns is it?

AFAIK it isn't much more than that - albeit you're going to face longer, more rigorous test(s) and it would be invigilated etc..etc..

Can you train for an IQ test?

yup and you can improve your 'IQ' score by doing so

can intelligence be learned or are we measuring it wrong.

I'm not sure we can measure it too well as it isn't exactly well defined to begin with. IQ isn't the same as 'intelligence' per say.
