Are you way too casual with leaving your laptop/netbook unattended?

i only leave my laptop alone is when i've been in the room with my friends - they'll look after it for me as i would for theirs.

obviously, i lock it to make sure they don't do something like set my homepage to meatspin or tell it to shutdown as soon as i get back :p

Ive taken my laptop into a bar/pub a few times, what is wrong with that?

Doing dissertation or project work with video editing or some colour corrrection work or something, need to get out of the house and fancy a pint at the same time, maybe something to eat?

I find it pretty normal and know lots of people who do it.

We have a very nice local pub 10 secs from our house and it is a change of scenary to do work in, everyone knows me, so i can just get on with sme bits and drink, then walk 10 secs home later on.

I see it all the time, obviously it's not cool if there's a group and just one guy with a laptop, but for people who are alone it's totally normal. Maybe you're waiting around for an hour and not close to home, go on the internet/do work and have a pint at a bar. Also many people don't have a connection at home, poor students for example (my friends)

So if it's during the day and you're by yourself, it's normal to me

(I have never done it)

I leave it alone on the train sometimes, but it couldn't really go very far and people would easily see someone taking it... Would most definitely not leave it in a pub or anywhere someone could just bunk off with it.

I don't usually take my laptop to school, but the only place I leave it unattended outside of the house is our Sixth Form area when I have to go somewhere for a couple of mins, any longer and I take it with me. We all know whos stuff is whos and people/staff are around anyway so nothing ever gets taken.

I still lock the laptop when I'm away from it to prevent major facebook rape though or someone messing with my work.
