I first got in 2002 when I was about 15, then I started applying Oxy 10 once a day and it basically stopped just about everything. In the last year I still put it on every day but I got to the stage where I was getting so few spots that I would try without it.

So I stopped using it and for 2 weeks I still had no spots. I really thought I had beat acne, then the spots started to come back. The thing that is so annoying is that having gone back to putting on the Oxy 10 every day, the spots are still coming! I don't know what to do - it depresses me so much. Only 5-6 spots at any one time but I suppose I am quite vain!

What products do you all find best?

i used that clerasiland just improved my diet (drink more water) and they have gone away. i was told to use soap but i havnt as that dries your skin up dosnt it??

Mines cleared up a lot, get the odd few around the chin area - but its bad right now because im stressed - always gets like it.

Yours might be getting worse because your getting worried about them and stressed too?

www.clearskinregimen.com (also, see www.acne.org for some history about it) is pretty much the only decent way you can tackle it without resorting to antibiotics. (it's a benzoyl peroxide regimen that actually works).

your acne doesn't sound too bad and it doesn't sound like you need any antibiotics. you should be able to at the very least significantly reduce (probably completely clear up) with the topical regimen outlined on that website. be warned, it requires a bit of peserverance, but I think you'll realise it's worth it.

None of those zit creams or face washes did anything for me except dry my face out and made my skin sore. I tried for years. Basically it's hormonal if you're a lad, the changes in testosterone cause it and no manner of topical snake oils is going to help really.

After a long run of different coloured antibiotics that made my wee smell I went on Roaccutane as it turned out mine was actually a hormone imbalance. That stuff sorted it out in about 6 months and apart from the occasional zit (I'm 28 now) the pizzaface never came back.

Look into accutane then.

Edit: Too slow lol.

Just ignore the "you will want to comit suicide" warnings that generally follow that medication. While there can be physical side effects, the drug does work.

In my case it worked a little too well. My skin has dried really well, however I have been off the stuff for months yet my skin will still flake if I don't moisturise every day. I have to use lipbalm daily also. And I still look really red.

Meh, you win some, you lose some. :(

Actually Memphis, now you mention it I did use a hell of a lot of lipsil around that time and I don't now, I never really made the link before.

Yeah you can ignore the suicide warnings, just 'cos some pre-emo kid hung himself and happened to be on roaccutane at the time means nothing. I had one nosebleed and my skin was slightly drier than usual but none of the red face, heart attacks, lipids, liver failure, kidney disease, fingernails falling out, depression or suicide. In fact I think my skin clearing up cheered me up more than it depressed me :D

Yeah that is the chemical name for Oxy 10, Oxy 10 being 10%. Is a higher % available?

Haven't seen a higher concentration available, it causes cancer at high concentrations.

I used to get it from the doctor in 25% but it was like applying nitromores paint stripper to your face. Stank and burned like hell and made a hole in your clothes if you wiped your fingers on them. Evil stuff :p

Stick with the lower percentages, as recommended on acne.org.

Personally I'm using a scrub that contains salicylic acid (which has a similar effect to benzoyl peroxide).
