Arma 2 multiplayer arranging thread

Feel free to set one up ;)
Arma 2 server is exceptionally hungry in terms of cpu and bandwidth so running two on even the fastest servers is not going to work well. I'd gladly host another arma 2 server but can't afford to unless people want to contribute towards rack space costs, which just ends up getting messy :(

I would gladly contribute to such costs if anyone else were insterested.

Recurring paypal payments would make collecting funds easy.

i personally think COOP is the way to go for the meantime as we can all learn how to play this game properly together

In my opinion,
Arma is a military simulation, which means mostly coop with tactics and stuff like that!;)
its not an action game for Deathmatch or stuff like that;)

+1 for password.

Im practicing heli flying to varying degrees - managed some successful runs last night before flying into a tree whilst looking at the map (it was on a hill in my defence and 'leaped out of nowhere !!1111!') - in all honesty my refusal to use auto hover probably comes into that, I might be more successful accepting the usefulness of that. Ill try to kill less people tonight if things are quiet on the piloting front.

As to the noobiness of the server, it is quite difficult to learn your lessons on this server (the word retard was uttered in my direction on more than one occassion although it was generally after id machine gunned a friendly) and especially with the vet settings making id hard until you remember the spacebar - but its worth it once you start getting into the flow of things. I think a noob guide would be good, once i get more of a clue about whats happening I might do one. Someone beat me to it.

As to TS, we had 20 people on at one point last night, I must say i never found it confusing. we did get peeps talking over each other occassionally but nothing too major. Im all for seperating the fireteams though, one of the major probs for me has been cohesion of fireteams. We seem to get one 'super' fireteam and everyone else trails after them randomly. It would be awesome progressing to the next stage and having multiple fireteams working towards an objective. Thats why im voting for a password and some more control over members.

Finally a quick word about the wazzock last night. Anyone who was there will know what I mean. Its inevitable that his sort will come in every now and then and whilst booting them is good this usually happens after theyve wreaked havoc. A passworded server will mean an effort to come to the forums and find the password or join TS - too much effort for a 7 year olds attention span of 15 seconds. It can always be unlocked if numbers are too low.

Looking forward to tonight, remember get in Hammers blackhawk for a safe ride!

+2 for password!

Maybe you should do a Server Rule section and hide the Password inside it, so people read the rules (no tking,...blah blah...oh a password!)

but make the rules accessable for everyone

Can't remember whether it is air cavalry or carparkaction which has harriers/f35s/various choppers but whichever it is we should put that on tonight - would be awesome with both of you guys flying (gord & hammer).
Hammer can chopper us out with laser designators, we'll laze the targets and gord can bomb them to hell :)

Evo has them but u need to be top rank to fly them.. Easy enough to mod the servers map to be rankless or easier ranks.

+1 for jet pilot. esp a10.

+1 also for passworded server. less newbs = more fun.

+1 more for password, we were all getting along fantastic until "he" turned up. Anything to stop things like that is all the better.
If it doesn't work and numbers drop off considerably, we can always remove the password.

It would be usefull to have a server message that gives info like TS and how to get the password before you connect so that "if you want to play, here's how", rather than "if you want to play, tough sod off".

Can't wait till tonight for more, maybe someone can play Ride of the Valkyries as we chopper in.

Coop is devoid of any strategy or real tactics though, its just banging your head against a wall of dumb AI.

Warfare is pretty much still coop, you will be mostly fighting AI since each player is a commander who can buy their own squads, either choosing to stay in the thick of it or command from a hill top as they send their minions in. This leads to some pretty awesome long fraught games of offensives and counter offensives, were strategy plays a big role in which team will win.

Just before I was in the middle of a fight for a town which is the most epic thing I have yet to see in this game, took about 20 minutes of some pretty nasty building to building fighting, streets littered with wrecked transports etc..just when we thought we had taken it and pushed them out a massive counter offensive come rolling in from our flank, a few squads of infantry charging down with a few tanks holding the hill shelling the crap out of us (think that was two players worth of stuff) and then another desperate struggle erupted and we were eventually wiped out, then to see the momentum they had gained as they flew down the road taking the next couple of villages on the back of that whilst we regathered our forces to halt them... I don't even understand why anyone is bothering with coop when there is much more fun to be had in warfare.

Thats a good point, but it depends on the players who are online;)

Man, nice vid, makes you look at chopper flying in a new light after playing this game.
Looking forward to tonight too.

Was thinking of this song and that "pussy" joke last night.

"When you join the server you should see the lobby, with a list of squads (usually something like 1-1-A through to 1-1-E, sometimes seperate squads for engineers etc) - at the top of that squad you should see the leader, and there are sub leaders (fire team leaders). The way it should work is that each squad has its own pilot, so if you get killed you will respawn at base and your pilot (or another if they're going the same way) will drop you back near the action. The good pilots we have on the server just constantly shuttle between the target zone and the spawn/HQ.
The way we have veteran set up on the OCUK server you should always be able to see your squad/fire team leaders icon (a diamond with 2 stripes etc) to see where they are. If you're lost just ask your leader to set you a waypoint/objective. You'll pick it up pretty quickly especially if you are on TS :)"

Yeah thought that was the deal with the squads but that screen wasn't visible when I joined the server last night. Ah well. Hoping to get online thursday night. Out tonight and tommo night. Wish I wasn't now.

Having dedciated pilots makes the game so much better. And having actual squad leaders issuing orders also makes the game much better. Well it's basically how it is supposed to be played huh?. Everybody dedicated to thier specific role. Quality. I have only ever experienced that type of gameplay with a few mates in previous games of Opflash and ARMA. Will be cool to see a 20+ server of players in unison.

Having a real hard time getting a decent game online for this!

How often you guys play? I would be jumping on TS for a little help if you dont mind.

Yeah I couldn't get on the server most of the evening, password needed.
I managed to get on after midnight for a bit.
Had 10-15 minutes of action in one town after getting dropped , before getting picked up and dropped again (Cheers) and moving into Pustov? Then some ignoramus decided it was fun to hit me with his motorX bike.
Hit-squad_haxor proper nosser.
Go on, tell me the game was going to pot anyway.
Still no reason to get your kicks with tk hit and runs.
I was enjoying it untill then.
Don't know what to say except dissapointed.

you really came on at the wrong time, *probably* most of the regs have gone by then and the server is open to the idiots. Tonight, join TS around 8ish onwards. I cant say for sure but the server wasnt passworded last night i think, at least when i went on around 9ish it was actually locked. shout out on TS and they unlock it especially for forumites. If its full theyll kick someone being an arse and on you go.

You can expect a good couple of hours of well coordinated action and most importantly anybody deliberately running over people will get the big old boot.

Thats strange? i thought we all had an agreement that it will be password protected not locked? how can some of us get on when its locked? not all of us have a mic. same thing happened to me on monday. i couldn't rejoin because it was either locked or full and i very much doubt there was 30 OCUK members online.

Definitely +1 to get your self on TS.

Had a blast with you all last night, bloody long game though. Was 5hours long when I left and it was still going!
