***ArmA 3 Thread***

I hope they make this steam workshop...

would be so much easier for modders to release addons and install them in one click through steam just like Skyrim..

Is it today or tomorrow the alpha is out? Very tempted to pick it up especially with mod support in an alpha, will it be possible to port some of the current missions over? I've started dabbling in wasteland and takistan life a bit recently and they are rather fun can only imagine they would be excellent on arma 3.

Also have the required specs been released yet? wondering how well this will run on my 5850 and phenom 955be x4.

Here you go mate!

textures low on the 20 quid version ?

all rest is pointless to me for 35 quid but textures on low would be annoying.

No lol, it would say in the details if the cheap version had low textures. I think textures will be high res from the start in ARMA 3 and won't be added later through DLC.

Just been reading the website a bit more and looks like they are using PhysX this time around Bah i just upgraded to a 7970 a few days ago from Nvidia.

Tiny bit gutted now :(

PhysX???

GTX 680 here!

The physx isn't used by the gpu, it is used solely by the CPU. So nvidia users won't hava any advantage.

I was thinking how they would do this as in mp the players without PhysX woudln't see stuff that was going on.

Nvidia has listed it on there games with hardware-accelerated PhysX support

It just says this

PHYSICS

The introduction of a new PhysX™-powered physics model has resulted in the most detailed vehicle simulation yet seen in the Arma series. Momentum, suspension and gravity all play a much bigger role in enhancing the vehicular experience of Arma 3.

BUt it doesn't say only on Nvidia so hopefully your right Marker :)

Any word on download size? I have visions of me taking a day and a half to download as I presume the servers will take a dump with everyone trying to download day 1:eek:

It says on the website 10gb of free space for the alpha on Min Spec and says on recommended 20gb space for the alpha!

I wonder if I want the supporter edition. Or digital deluxe. Is anyone planning on getting supporter (haven't had time to read thread)

Edit - no i don't - it seems pointless. I could go for digital deluxe though. Or just alpha.. hehe

k cheers no point in getting better than 20 quid game then lol

as to phsyx :D just looool worst thing ever which has only been used a couple of times to any effectiveness . pointless addition i guess they threw aload of money at em to include it.

ARMA needs some kind of Physics, the way players currently die and go flying along the floor lying stiff dead takes away some immersion for me, I want to seem them spinning through the air in my rear view mirror when I hit them at 90 in my Humvee!

every other game since time began could probably do it or does do it already without physx .

im sure reason signed up instantly was because they heard it maybe included in arma 3 :p

I'm not saying PhysX is needed, I'm saying some kind of physics is needed, this is CPU based PhysX anyway so it will run fine on either AMD or Nvidia, will probably just be for ragdoll effects, just simple stuff.

The most annoying one for me is driving down a huge valley in a big heavy tank (or anything else tracked for that matter), building up a load of speed to climb up the other end only to hit a TINY rock or shrub right at the bottom which stops it dead in its tracks (pun intended). On the flip side its hilarious watching an M1 become airbourne after going off a ledge and seemingly just float back down to earth...

On a separate note, does anyone know if the alpha will be patched into the beta and then into the final release or will it be a case of redownload it completely each time?
