***ArmA 3 Thread***

@Jacksyder

Hey mate...

When I have finished this mission I am working on, hopefully Melbo and the squad will help me beta test it!

But fancy having a crack of it with your squad as well?

Would appreciate the feedback. Cheers

Would love to! I actually had a few questions for you in regard to servers. We're possibly looking into changing providers. Gathering some options for now.

What is your budget per month for a dedi ?

Right now we pay about $100 per month for an 8 core AMD based dedicated server. 16Gb of ram. Unsure on HDD space and 100mb connection based in the states. The price is great but we're recently getting a lot of packet loss issues and their customer support is terribad.

Currently the servers are entirely paid for by 1 person and hes happy and willing to do that. We donate if/when we can but he has gone into this deal fully expecting to pay 100% of the costs. We have a couple of other wealthy members willing to put $100 PM in too. But ideally we'd like to have our costs between 100-200 dollars.

GTX gaming which you and MGT use have some great options on an 8core xeon system in paris that comes in around $150 a month and from what people tell me, they're really great for support as well as issues.

We'd prefer an intel system given armas CPU hungry requirements too. We're not going to move yet but we're just gathering options in the mean time.

A US server would be prefered. We're about half and half US/EU members but its generally weighted to the US. Unfortunately US networks are terribad usually though. UK servers are generally £50 more than an EU equivalent as well.

Anyone got a floating mid atlantic data centre? :p if only.

As of now, we run 3 virtual servers. 2 arma2 servers with 2 cores each (doesnt benefit from more) and 4 cores assigned to the arma3 server. (not sure if it benefits from 4 yet.)

We will of course drop the arma2 servers eventually but that wont be for a good while i dont think.

We run out TS off the server too which is giving us huge issues with DCs and massive packet loss daily. SUpport tickets just claim its a DDOS attack and they cant do anything about it. And sometimes they say they cant look at issues that previously happened and can only help if the issue is happening RIGHT NOW. We're pretty sick of them.

Are you releasing your missions to the comunity or keeping them with in your group?
I only ask as an arma2 squad I know is looking at wether or not they want to move over to arma3 and some perpose made missions rather than ported from arma2 might make it a better test for them

Understandable if you want to keep them to your group though

Mate

We use pound host, based in liverpool.. Great pings as you know to our servers.

£78 a month, Quad Xeon, 8gig of ram etc etc!

We have had 4 full ARMA II servers running off it, as well as TS and usually no problems. Obviously with the more intense missions you might get the occasional Desync but I haven't noticed anything that bad. Missions I mean Wasteland :) !

If you want we can put a mission on server 2 for you guys to use, with some mods if needed to test as it isn't being used as much just now.

Again, as long as Melbo CAI etc are good with that!

I release everything mate..

Just wanted a couple of independent groups beta testing them!

We have a couple of members that are great at breaking peoples missions >.<

We had this one missions with these 3 huge defended enemy positions all beautifully setup and hard nuts to crack. We inserted into the area. Found an artillery piece that was there just as scenery. Used it to wipe out all the enemies QRF hinds before they depart and obliterated the AO then just walked in :D

Mission maker had to lock all the opfor vehicles after that.

Tried the first showcase, no idea how to aim down sight :( ?

right mouse button just zooms in a little...i die pretty quickly

I didnt set them up but it works extremely well. We get 30+ FPS server side all the time and its usually sat at 45-49fps solid. The big issue is connection to the server and uptime.

The high server FPS makes an unbelievable difference to how AI fight and move. They are far more dangerous if the server is running at max frames and our AI scripts really take great effect. And this is without using a headless client.

our box , i5 2.66G 16G ram + 1TB HD

Runs 5 x arma2 servers , web server , six repo , ts server + arma3 dev dedi
Server generated FPS is usually 50 most of the time unless someone sticks a dodgy script in a mission

If anyone is good with the editor can they maybe help me with how you make a marker on the map go red for when enemy are present to blue for when area is cleared as i would like to learn how to do this feature in my mission if possible. Cheers.
