***ArmA 3 Thread***

Hey there folks. Our clan has a Wasteland server up and running with a modified mission file of the original Wasteland 1.06 which removes a lot of the items that for the time being do not work.

Also the server auto restarts upon crash ( which at the moment is quite common for ArmA 3 servers ) however it is a lot more stable with the modified file

Look forward to seeing all you guys on there. Feel free to visit out forum at bigclan.co.uk or join our teamspeak ts3.bigclan.co.uk

Will jump on tonight and have a look :D

Playing on high on my 2500k at 4.0 and 6870 hawks in CF.

Getting good fps 50-60 most of the time and about 80-85% usage of both GPU but unfortunately when my FPS drops to 40-45 my usage is only like 60% on each cards, is this my 2500k holding them back or?

Nope, just the engine/alpha at the moment.

My 2600k and GTX680 see low usage at times also.

Is there a quicker way to ground a helicopter? I use the xbox pad for flying and it's blinding but it takes forever to land, we're talking about lowing at 1 meter/feet per second so when you're up like 180 + you're a sitting target!

Also I've found some launchers that put a white square on stuff and it doesn't seem to lock on, how do you lock on?

Fly out and lose some speed and come back with nose down, then just land.

It's barely different, aside from higher speeds, more agility and less weather vaning effect and more rudder control at higher speeds.
It actually controls more like the AH-6J from ACE iirc.

My memory must be bad then, been a while since I played Arma 2 but this is awful now. Could just be that heli, maybe others are more complex less puppet string based physics

The heli movement is far inferior to arma 2 as I remember it, I guess this will change majorly later

Actually I felt it was mostly the same, the two major differences I found was they seem to be more crashable (dropped it from a hover as high as 15m and took no damage ) and they are harder to control with no tail rotor. Having said that I focused more on the ka60 though. Never really did like the lil bird...

Choppers are stupidly easy to fly at the minute. All you need to do is bank it hard to one side.

Can't wait till they get the ToH flight model implemented.

Yeah, also TOH flight model would be bad for this game, it makes helo usage much, much slower and for a game, that'd just make shooting pilots out easier. I don't think anyone wants that :|
There needs to be some barrier between yes, it's a game and yes it's trying to simulate stuff because you can do things all too easy in this that you can't in real life. Making helos more realistic and sluggish would hurt.

Quote "The ToH flight model will be the default flight model for all the helicopters and will be used in the SP campaign as well."

But we want more realism, not less. The flight model in arma is really poor Tbh.

Like I said, there's short space for certain realisms, it'll hopefully be optional because as much as some of us can fly any mode thrown at us, others cannot and that's my issue is when it comes to flying the pool of able pilots may get smaller. I'm fine with it.

I don't think you fully understand what the issue is though, full simulation TOH in a large game environment is going to be asking for an RPG into the cockpit(or similar) because it's much slower gameplay and it's so easy to aim/shoot in the game. Doing a Hot LZ is going to be more dangerous. Shooting in this has already become a lot easier with the much nicer mouse movement and no negative acceleration. Gameplay is already noticeably faster, twitchier.

Infantry gameplay has sped up, with the possibility helicopters slowing down? That's an issue.
Though I'd like to see how fast people are able to get on the deck in TOH taking gunfire into consideration, any vids?

Rather the flight system kept to a more easy going nature instead of being overly complex because im just about ok enough to fly choppers in arma 3 atm, i wouldnt like it made more difficult just to make it more difficult for realism sake. Needs to be a balance between realism and gameplay as it is a game a good sim but still a game.

This might sound really whack, but I really like the BF3 flight simulation.

It's easy enough for everyone to grasp but rewards people who can put the extra expertise in. Aircraft feel like they have weight and are 'flying'.

I'm not saying flying should be harder, as a base, in ARMA3 but it should be easy enough to pick up and reward those who master.

I did a little bit of flying in ARMA 3 and the aircraft felt more like weightless zero-g space craft than what they should.
