***ArmA 3 Thread***

If you press 'I' and hover over the guns picture it should pop up a tool tip telling you the type of ammo the gun requires. You have three inventory slots or containers for equipment left is uniform, then harness & then bag (if your unit is carrying one) click in the picture at the top to see what each contains (In Arma 3).
Arma 2 it's 'G' by default to open inventory & is a little simpler but nearly the same operation.

What do you actually do in this game? I've seen people using the wasteland mod but what is the normal standard game about?

Do you just run around in fields looking for people to shoot?

you make a play missions. Anything.

The game isnt a pick up and play game with 5 maps and scenarios.

It requires either a vast amount of personal map making skill.

Or a group of skilled people to help things run smoothly. guys making new missions and scenarios to play, guys maintaining servers and such.

Possibilities are endless though.

It's a military simulation really & it simulates infantry combat using real world tactics, formations & Armour (Tanks ect) has one of the most advanced ballistics models in any game & has been developed from a version actually used as a training aid for the army.
It's not suited to your average FPS player who likes run & gun action over substance to be honest, with Arma it's more about positioning yourself to have the best advantage in a fire fight which can happen at ranges of 1000 meters plus.
Check out Shack-Tac videos on youtube they take the game very seriously but that is the way to get the best out of Arma IMO.

Those shack tac videos were awesome.

If I bought the game and went into a server would I find lots of people or is the area so big I would only find someone every now and again?

Also is the day and night actually the same as real time? So if you play at night it would just be in total darkness?

It looks amazing with all the team work but would I end up just running around solo being bored?

I'm still struggling with the controls, sprint toggle for instance never seems to work properly and I never know what pace i'm running / walking at. I used a key for combat walk and it only works half the time. Also finding the place so big with no idea where to find things / what to do in Wasteland.

The controls are complex & I suggest rather than trying to use everything all in one go start with basics for example for a beginner I'd not bother with combat pace just use run/walk toggle until you have it down then if you feel ready add a key for combat pace.
I think if you are not seeing a difference in pace its probably because you are running while looking down the sights of your gun which effects the speed you move.
With wasteland the key is communication, talk to your team over coms or team channel, find out where they are building a base & head there, keep an eye out for objectives that pop up then try linking up with team members heading in that direction, but the best advice I can give is keep your head on a swivel & if you get flanked retreat while returning fire if you remain static for too long you are pretty much dead.

yeah I did hear right :(

I love Arma - always have done - and I bought the "Alpha" on day one - but the more I watch these vids - the more I think there are a set of real "alphas and betas" going on in the background - and the public alpha and to be released betas - are there just to keep up appetised

when I've tested betas in the past - for free - its been as near to the complete game - but with bugs - of which need to be reported (the whole point of a beta)

perhaps I'm being unfair

as I said I'm a huge Arma fan - and can't wait till retail release

I'd rather they leave out Altis until the final release, if I've played it before the final release then my hype for the game wouldn't be as high. Although, perhaps little sections/scenarios taking place on small chunks of Altis would be good.

Same story as everyone else I'm sure but I'm geting terrible framerates in multiplayer.

In singleplayer I'm running a mix of high/medium settings (textures high, landscape high, 2x anti aliasing etc) and the framerate is decent...not great but good enough to enjoy the game.

In multiplayer, my framerate is terrible...I haven't bothered to get a reading but its not at all playable, its a jerky mess. I've tried lowering the settings but it seems to have very little effect...changed everything to low, disabled anti alasing, lowered visibility...nada. No improvement in framerate.

I'm probably fliogging a dead horse here but is there a fix for this yet? Thanks.

its alpha bro !

but seriously its terrible just wait till end of june for beta should be better performance wise then hopefully they fixed some of the terrible animations aswell.

Was playing this yesterday, seems far too easy!

I can play it just fine maxed out with no performance issues, but I prefer to play in low as it makes it easier to spot enemies, and it did just that, I spotted a guy lying down about 2 - 3km away, took out that standard assault rifle and switched to the rifle scope, first shot hit and killed him.

Another instance, I was chasing one of those cars on foot, shot all wheels out and waited for the driver to exit, he did the "bazooka animation" (pulling out weapon) about 5 times before his gun was raised before he could even try to shoot me.

Had problems with sprinting too, one life I could sprint, the next I couldn't.
