*** ArmA II Thread - OA, CO, PMC, BAF ***

Thanks for the game tonight guys (and the help with ACRE - hopefully you could hear me OK in the end). Apologies if I was a bit useless!

Hopefully will get online with you again soon.

Hey all, bit of a mare getting things going but did what i probably should have done in the first place - after following Sniffy's guide above and doubtless doing it wrong >< I downloaded sixupdater - or 'play with SIX' whatever its called now, connected to the server using the IP address and port, and when I hit join it asked me if i wanted to update five files, mostly the CBAs and Acre. Let it do its thing, clicked join, and all works fine. Now to figure out how to use the radios.

Glad to see you got it working mate..

Unfortunately we were to far away to hear you on your short range radio..

Also make sure you have the 1.62 Acr lite patch, then reinstall beta patch again..

Also, if possible, can someone with sixupdater please do me a favour..

If you can I need you to download ace mod and let me know it's version number please.

Thanks

Guys anyone that needs help with acre, let me knw and I'll team view if need tonight.

Cheers

Cool mate..

CN you do that ace download for me please, open p the folder and tell me the version from version.txt..

God.. I really hope I don't have to install suxupdater...

I think six updater would suit your set-up fine, at least you will all know your peeing up the same tree mod wise..
Plus its straight forward and simple..

Shouldn't need it at all but it is handy for making sure you have all the dependencies as it grabs them all automatically for you.

Just checked mine, I have 568 for ACE and 365 for ACEX.

edit: and yeah, as above I literally just use it for updating the mods then close it. can still do all your launching in armaII launcher.

Trick with SU is, don’t go on-line until SU is up and on your bottom line, then connect. Then you won’t get all that whole new install nonsense that SU tends to do from time to time..
So get SU up then go on-line then click sync in SU to enable you to update your mods..
If it needs updating it will be yellow if it needs installing its blue and if it says in a red box ‘not updater file/mod’ then convert it, if you want, or leave it.

Your right you don't need it, but for updating and doing what your doing, especially when Ace updates so often, would be much simpler. Don't play the game through it, just use it to update, so easy, your only using it as an updating tool.
I have a huge amount of mods for A2, so at least a block of them tell me they need updating (in SU) without me having to look through everything, the rest I update manually, saves a lot of work..

Ok guys, will give it a go tonight..

Next week sometime we can run a test with ace and see how it goes from there..

Possible sound mods also...saw a couple on the armaholic site hatbwerebquite nice, especially the raw one, which kev recommended last night..

Got to say +1 to this. Thats how I did it last night, type in the IP for your server, hit the yellow sync, get all the updates and away you go. It means Marker you can add whatever you please and players can always stay up to date.

Ok

I'll take it back slightly!

Six Updater is actually pretty good for downloading the mods!

The only thing that annoys me, is that it keeps two copies of the mod within the folder!

Is there anyway to avoid that?

If your running a small server, SU should help make it easier, you make the ‘Preset’ put it on your server and everyone plays from that preset, well it uses the mods required automatically for your players, provided they have the mods in the folder to the same version (use SU), they (your players) need do nothing else. That’s my layman’s view, you will know a lot more about that side than I do. I play in a group of around 30 of us and don’t do any of that side (server), I just make the missions. Also we are a bit further into A2, so only use SU as an updating tool, it does it quickly by only updating the bits that need it, not all, therefore taking away some of the updating time & strain.

I have an external 1TB hdd and point SU towards that, I keep all of the SU mods on that along with many others that I manually update.
Our group re-pack mods pbo’s and separate them into categories for our game, but its an in-depth ongoing game we play and in many instances we break some mods down into parts, eg; for ai, we have @ai_enhancements, inside that are pbo’s from 5 ai mods, tested for compatibility and to give us the best pos ai behaviour, therefore re-packed.

But for what you need/want, quick one night missions, then SU should be right up your street, I would have thought.
But as said earlier, don’t allow it to start off with you on-line because it has a very annoying habit of re-installing itself quite often, get it up first, then go online, just click sync to get your update needs.

And no don’t get rid of rsync folders, SU would not work properly and it would just simply try and re-place them anyway, that’s where using an external hdd comes in handy, you tend not to mind the space loss too much..

So it's ok to place my mods to another drive?

Six is perfect for our needs just now.. Hopefully we can get more and more into it..

Learning the full controls of acre just now, and helping everyone set it up..

Last mission was a good one, 6 or 7 of us on acre, a few random yanks on chat, organised air cover with an apache, I had a few bombing runs in a harrier to soften them up for the jumpers, who went to to hold the area for the comms tower deployment team..

Mission successfully completed. Makes it worthwhile when a bit of forethought goes into it.

Just uploading ace, rws (sound mod), rws_ace, st_movement and _st_hud..

Probably eave it at that aftervwecenable them..

Plus it will give us more scope for coop missions using ace.

Yes for storage and updating, bring back across the ones you need to use, to the arma 2 folder, or if using SU for game launch, you can actually have the mods run direct from the store drive.
Could cause slowdowns if your running usb2, usb3 would be better for that. I would just bring across the needed mods from store drive.. At least you can have a large selection of mods in store, but use only a selected few when you want, trying out different combinations here and there, just by bringing them across when needed, without your onboard hd getting bogged down..
