Arma vs Operation Flashpoint...

ARMA and ARMA2 are both bug ridden poorly executed shambles of games.

ARMA2 is especially shocking, it somehow conspires to be even MORE poorly put together than ARMA.

I bought ARMA on specially offer at Game before christmas, and made the mistake of listening to what people said on here about its sequel being a lot better, it isnt, its garbage, and I want my £24.99 back, but I cant, because I cant return a game because its ******* ****.

wait...what? Theres no 30v30 maps or 64v64? No large scale Mp maps in Opf2?

This is swaying it somewhat for me. Only played BF2 but the large scale maps are fun, especially when co-ordinated squads occur...OFP2 seems to be heading towards the console market if 16vs16 is the max, imo. Dubious as it's codemasters 1st at developing something too.

Just had a go at the Arma2 demo...does feel a bit clunky, which I wonder if is ironed out a little on release. The AI vehicle control is, um, interesting - drive into fence, reverse, turn a bit, drive into fence again... Like modding communities, especially if it's anything like GTR2's.

How large are Arma2's multiplayer maps?

What Bugs are you refering to?
If you are talking about single player campaign I would agree there are some problems with it
MP , is where it is at with Ofp / Armed Assault and Arma2

My god, what a buggy unfinished series ArmA is. The first one was unplayable for the most of first year after release, and yet against everything I know I went out and bought ArmA2. Came home, installed it, patched it, played it - whoosh first mission, first uncurable bug.
After all main missions in first chapter, there I am on the mission to find evidence of atrocities and destroy an extra target. Unit reached the hill, I destroyed the target with laser guide, then destroyed another, then destroyed tank, killed few extra enemy soldiers around the hill and returned to my unit. And we sat there pretty. My seargant. My rifleman. Me. Our machine gunner. I look at them, they look at me. 5 minutes. 10. Nothing.

I check the map, tasks, all done, find evidence says 2/3. So off I go into the forest to find the thrid evidence. "2, return to formation" screams my seargant. "Where are you?" I request. "Here here and so" he respons in code. I check the map, it's the same place where I left them. So I return to formation. And we sit there. All pretty. I do my pedicure. Rifleman is looking at me, kind of horny. Seargant, with face of a stoned blow up doll won't take his eyes off me. 5 minutes, 10 minutes. Nothing.

So off i go to the woods to see wickerman, and they just keep calling me, every 2 minutes, to return to formation. But screw that, I think, there is more to Chernorussia than this, let's do some tourist stuff. I wander off for miles, to the town, to the light house, every now and again I encounter some random enemy soldier at which point my unit shows a ghost presence. "Enemy in front of US!" someone screams. I look around. "WTF do you mean us? You are 5 miles out on the hill?!" "Providing cover!" screams my seargant. Now that is some weed....

I go back to them after an hour. We sit there pretty. Trees. Grass. Stones. Rifleman looking horny. Seargant slightly stoned. All pretty. Nothing...

Was going to wait for OF DR but now I want ARMA 2 just for the sub-mission: 'Thwart The Advances Of The Rifleman'.

ARMA 2 seems maybe a bit too hardcore mil sim for me, would I be right in thinking OF DR will be a bit more accessible/gamey than ARMA 2?

I think, it will be less complicated but without losing the realism. Some things in Arma was just unneccessarily complicated, as a previous post discussed. This is where I believe OFPDR will be more accessable without losing that certain charm of the the milsims.
