Don't know if anyone else is following this but it has escalated a bit now:

This could be interesting re: invoking the treaty and Russia getting involved - Turkey is already involved to some extent (mostly via proxy from Turkish controlled forces moved out of Syria, equipment supplies and some air force involvement). Also use of an S300 for people who like weapons etc... (these threads always seem to attract them)

Was wondering when a thread would appear - I've been following Twitter posts on and off but I don't really know much about this conflict and what and who is involved.

Well I guess on one side the disputed region is technically Azerbaijan's territory.... but that's thanks to the usual mess with Soviet borders etc.. and it has an Armenian majority and has been under the control of Armenia for a while now. I'm not sure Azerbaijan cares much about the people there either (or perhaps they'd not be shelling them), they just want the land. On ther other hand this esclation to attacking Armenia proper (rather than the disputed territory which is technically, on the map, theirs) things could get a bit heated....

Seeing as Russia and Armenia have a military defence pact in place with this Russia should intervene on their behalf. However they also have interests in Azerbaijan, particularly oil related.

Not surprised that things appear to be escalating. Hopefully, this doesn't become a complete mess, although who knows what might be possible if Russia steps in to help deal with it.

Wonder if the first tweeter got a bit carried away - if these are surveillance drones then not technically an attack... though there has apparently been some shelling of areas in Armenia so I guess that could still prompt the request for assistance from Russia. If they trigger this treaty then I guess Russia perhaps has to be seen to act.

There are stronger cultural ties to Armenia as both are orthodox Christian countries, I think that will play a role.

Yup - but also just that CTSO treaty, it's like the ex-Soviet equivalent of NATO and if a request is made and Russia doesn't assist then it makes the whole thing rather moot.

Hopefully it means Turkey and Russia square off, along with NATO ignoring Turkey's requests for help for being poop. If I were Ukraine i'd also use the opportunity to move into Donbass, though i imagine that's being generous towards Ukraine's abilities.

Kim Kardashian is (unsurprisingly) posting some pro Armenian tweets:

She should go out there if she's that concerned.

Stand her on the border and the drones won't have the range to fly around her huge arse to reach Armenia

Who are the goodies and baddies or Whose side are we on?

That is a great question. I'd probably net out on the Armenian side, in that the population in the affected region don;t want to be ruled by Azerbaijan (from what I;ve read) and they should have a chance to determine their own future. However, once shots are fired, my guess is that both sides are going to be doing some nasty things (shelling civilians etc)
