Armenia vs Azerbaijan

Was discussing this on another site and the Turkish posters had been taking a pretty pro-Azerbaijan stance, however now it's emerged that Azerbaijan have been targeting civilian sites with cluster munitions they are condemning both sides. Be interesting to see if that translates into any change in Turkeys position, not that Erdogan has every particularly cared what his people think.

It will be interesting to see how Russia react to this when they actually do, both Turkey and Iran are good customers so with them backing Azerbaijan Russia may try to find a way out of their treaty with Armenia (would be very comical if they used a misplaced comma like we did with Ukraine hahah).

Pretty sure turkey shot down a Russian jet over Syria and Russia did nothing...

Looks like a ceasefire come into effect at least temporarily while they try and come to a more substantial agreement.

Odd that this happened a day after Russia said "Nah, we're not playing this game" meaning the whole event is now worthless to Turkey's interests. I wonder if Turkey decided to stop pulling Azerbaijan's strings once embarrassing Russia was off the table IMHO?

Haven't been following it that closely not sure what the Russians have been doing.

Russia has a Defence Pact with Armenia which allows for Russia to step in and help defend Armenia should it get invaded. Turkey was betting that Russia would intervene (probably indirectly) allowing Turkey to cause more pain and embarrassment to Russia and it's interests by helping Azerbaijan (indirectly/directly) kick the crap out of any Russian/Armenian forces.

However Russia saw this coming and instead chose the opposite path of throwing Armenia under the bus by saying that the defence pact doesn't cover the Nagorno-Karabakh region so they won't intervene. Once Russia backed out Turkey then had no further use for the conflict so it's also backed away slightly, letting Armenia and Azerbaijan sort out a cease-fire without more external interference.

Effectively Turkey is using Russia's own "new model of warfare*", as used very successfully in Crimea, against Russia only this time they saw the trap and avoided it, unlike in Syria and Libya where Turkeys use of Russian tactics have been extremely successful against Russia and it's allies.
