Arrgh - Fire alarm!!

woke up by ours at 8am yesterday , the noise startled me , dont think ive ever got out of bed and into clothes so quick

then just as i realised it was just a fire alarm and not the end of the world it stopped

they test them every friday morning at about 10am here  scares the christ out of you if you're half awake and half asleep at the time add dont really know whats going on :(

In Purbeck in Bournemouth they used to test them at 10am on Mondays, was amusing as I had uni at 9 on Mondays last year...scared the hell out of my missus when she stayed till sometime late Monday. I'd completely forgotten about the tests. :D

For the first couple of weeks there we used to have idiots setting them off about once a night at silly'o'clock, so glad I'm in a house now. :)

Try having to attend false alarms that are set off maliciously by drunken students several times every night. Still, this reminds me of a turn-out to the local student accomodation. It is full of students from the Middle East and as such, they don't have a lot of respect for us (due to their caste system), and don't bother leaving before we turn up. Well, I did surprise a lad who didn't expect to be disturbed and found him watching pron with his hand going like the clappers under his kaftan.

My work always decide to have fire drills when it's raining. I swear they sit there looking out of the window and think to themselves "Oooh, It's raining. Time for a fire drill". The fire assembly point is at the far end of the car park so I've taken to parking my car in that corner. So now whenever we have a drill in the rain, I just sit in my car. :)

This morning it went off at 3:20 but everything has gone rather quickly.

And guess what, same room as last night.

There are people coming up now to fix it, according to the wardens outside my room next to hers talking about it.

Hmmm fall asleep in my 9 am lecture or just not go to it? Hmmmmm

It will be terribly boring anyway, I think the latter.

Off to bed again I think, or these blokes are going to keep me awake sorting out the alarm.

actually im going for a run.

So it defiantly a faulty alarm, it not just some one setting if off?

Definatly a faulty alarm.

Some people where meant to be going to the room to disconnect it to the main circuit just before I went for a run but ive asked the group of 5 people who are outside my room/the room in question having a chit chat and they say the people havnt been yet.

LOL

There is like 4 of them playing cards, and the boyfirend of the girl who has the faulty fire alarm in her room is asleep on the floor in the middle of the corridor.

Only fire alarm that i remember that was interesting (ie, not just fire drills) was about 10 years ago, when i was 10 and went with my school to see A Midsummer Night's Dream at a theatre.

Part of the building was having construction work done and 5 min from the end, the fire alarm goes off (which we was later informed was due to dust from the construction work).

Now, up untill this point, the play was FANTASTIC, one of the best things ive ever been too. When the alarm went off i thought it was a bit funny, but would ruin the rest of the play. But, the actors were kind enough to finish the play outside in the parking lot (which was mostly empty, so had plenty of room to perform), and since the 'fairies' were played by young girls with no footware they had to be carried by the other actors (the floor surface wasnt exactly ideal for bear feet, theres was rough stones everywhere).

All in all it was quite an interesting day, and even with the fire alarm and having to go outside, it was a fantastic performance.

Hey if theres a fire alarm at the school I work in, I have to sit tight in the classroom, and hope the 30 minute fire doors keep me safe until someone comes to get me.

Rules is rules and I have to wait behind with the disabled child I look after.

Can't understand why the occupant would get a frosty reception if she had no part to play in the alarm going off?

If any one else wants Alan's mobile number so you can text him in the early hours when your fire alarm goes off my email is in trust. :D

Worst I ever saw in res halls, candle in bathroom for mood lighting, underneath aerosol can, left to percolate for a while, then BOOOM, trashed two rooms, and the guy sitting at his desk three rooms to the side was physically moved backwards, along with the wall. Nice mess to tidy up that was. no one complained about the fire alarm going off for the rest of the semester after that.

And they wonder why we said NO CANDLES

An aerosol can?
I find that very very hard to believe ;)

Unless said aerosol can belonged to the giant who lives in the castle in the clouds.

Or, the aftermath of the fire caused the wall to fall?

Is that only the second fire alarm you've had since moving into halls then? My block in halls had two fire alarms yesterday! As post-grads, we're not as bad as the undergrad block :D
