Yes, they've been hyped to death and what not, but i've just got back from Rock City in Nottingham after tonights gig ... and wow! Absolutely brilliant stuff! They played a couple of new tracks along with all the old favourties. It was great to see them in such a small'ish venue, everyone singing along to the lyrics! Absolute top stuff!

Was anyone else there or have tickets for the next legs of the tour?

I have tickets for Sat night, Newcastle. I am not too bothered tbh. They are ok. Expecting a bad crowd....pint chuckers, surfers, and mobile phone videoers. To combat this sense of apathy I intend to get very drunk :)

A lad i knows a mega fanboy, loves them, and is going too see them in Newcastle this weekend. Anyone fancying a few monkehs downloads go to www.mardy-bum.com and they will probably be there, he lives by his site so its updated very regularly, sometimes hourly.

Cant stand them myself though, dont see whats so special about them.

edit - 10k posts, w00t.

Why, their true to British life Mike Skinneresque lyrics and the throbbing peak of musicianship of The Libertines of course.

old as in a year old

if that

Three years old actually.

And what else are you supposed to call them? I guess "the usual".. but when they are putting songs in the set list that haven't been played in 2 years.. then you can safely call them older songs.

I remember the days when a band's popularity went like this:

Obscure
Obscure
Obscure
Moderately popular
Quite popular
Pretty popular
Well known
Very popular
World-beating
... and then back the other way. Nowadays it seems to go

Obscure
Obscure
...
Obscure
Insanely successful
Obscure
Obscure
... etc.

:(

Oh come on, thats harsh. The Libertines have nothing on the Monkeys.

I like them because they're the only act atm singing in a proper Yorkshire accent :D

Don't see why the OP wrote it in dirty manc though :/

They owe their sound entirely to The Libertines. I actually thought one of their songs that I heard on the radio was The Libertines until I heard the vocals.

They're superior in every way though...

They're playing in Newcastle?!

Very interesting...Best stock up on bottles, petrol, rags and lighters.

*n

And mustard... mustard first then the petrol bombs.

You see they will keep growing hair and won't be able to put themselves out :D

Yeah riiight, and your a Man of hon...oh

Personally I don't like them (can you tell?)

Each to their own. I don't like The Libertines but I like the Monkeys.

They aren't earth-shakers by any stretch, but in a similar vein to Hard-Fi they're inoffensive with some catchy songs.

Standing on the shoulders to be honest. They're incredibly derivative (but then what isn't nowadays in the mainstream indie world; The Kooks anyone?).

Why does everything always have to be compared?

Like the music? Listen to it
Dont? Don't listen to it..

It relates to it because I've heard it all before so it's boring and bland. Arctic Monkeys aren't especially bad, but they are probably one of the most ridiculously overhyped bands in past years.

I have tickets for Blackpool, although I've just sold them for some obscene price as I can't be bother going now. They're nothing special at all, saw them a few times and they're not great live imo, much better performers out there. :)

Oh and the 'tines > monkeys - from a very great height over and over again up the botty :p SIlly questions really.
