Oh, I don't know about that. Libertines, anyone? ;)

I agree with you for the most part though. There's nothing demonstrably bad about the Arctic Monkeys, unless you count sounding a bit like every other band going, but then who doesn't these days? However, there's not anything to set them apart from the crowd either, and they are massively overhyped.

It relates to it because I've heard it all before so it's boring and bland. Arctic Monkeys aren't especially bad, but they are probably one of the most ridiculously overhyped bands in past years.

Overhyped definitely.

For the last 2 months I can guarantee you can walk into ANY train station in the country...and you'll find at least 3 Arctic Monkey's posters.

It's ridiculous.

And then you hear people going, "I like them because they made it on their own, purely by word of mouth".

Hahahahahahahahahahahah-aaaaaaaaaa-hahahahahaha.

Got tickets to Magna one a week today. Should be good.

Couple of the lads went to the Rock City one, haven't heard from them yet though.

I remember the days when a band's popularity went like this:

Obscure
Obscure
Obscure
Moderately popular
Quite popular
Pretty popular
Well known
Very popular
World-beating
... and then back the other way. Nowadays it seems to go

Obscure
Obscure
...
Obscure
Insanely successful
Obscure
Obscure
... etc.

:(

A band like Muse is a excellent example of a band naturally evolving as old bands used to. There are still plenty around.

Pity that quite a few of the british bands of last summer seem to have dissipated off, I want to hear more of Bloc Party, The Killers, Hard-Fi etc (even though i can't think of any) even though there was a major surgance of brit-pop through last summer now they don't seem to be doing anything from a british music scene point of view.

edit: that was a carp example seen as 1 of the bands is from the us and another was more recent, but maybe the bravery, the futureheads and that crew. shh.

Bloc Party are recording a new album produced by Jacknife Lee due out in July (same time as Muse's). Killers and Hard-Fi are rubbish, so who cares. ;)

I see your point, and I sort of agree, they just fit into the catchy pop rock that you've got to like a bit of :p

They're a decent enough band, it's just they've been overhyped so much to the point that there's bound to be a backlash at some stage from the public.

Well went to the gig last night at newcastle, thought the gig was really good, great performance and a even better atmosphere. Will see what there like at T In The Park.

You admit liking Bloc Party and won't admit to liking superior acts like Hard-Fi and The Killers?

Strange person.

How can superior possibly be defined in terms of music? Unless you have some sort of objective description of good available to you, we'll have to agree to disagree.

Whilst I like Hard-fi and the Killers, they aren't even in the same league as Bloc Party.

Bloc Party are an awesome band, and Silent Alarm was the best Album of last year, imo. They are great live too.

The Killers suck live too.

The Killers have done some songs I don't mind listening to. Hard-Fi have done some songs I don't mind listening to.

Bloc Party haven't.

Thats why the former two are superior to the latter.

As for how they can be superior, we're talking about music so everything is opinion. Do I really need to add a line into my sig that states everything I say is opinion unless stated otherwise?

Or you could just stop stating your opinion like it's a fact!

If you mean to say "I like Band X more than Band Y" then you'll probably find you'll have to explain yourself less if you actually say that, rather than saying "Band X are better than Band Y".
