Arsenal are a French team.

not like Barca and Real are full of Spaniards is it.
I imagine they'd take issue with that. They both have at least as many Spanish players in their first elevens as any Premiership club has English ones, with the possible exception of West Ham.

I support Spurs all the way

we have been successful with home grown talent

Why is that any different? Its not like you produced the likes of Robinson, lennon, carrick, DeFoe, dawson etc. etc yourself.
Just happens that arsenal bought players with a different passport.

If they were home grown as in developed by Spurs I could understand, but I dont see much of a difference.

Robinson would be the only one i'd consider at the moment as Lehman is getting on, form wise i'd pick Lehman at the moment though. Note that i said team and not squad in my earlier post.

Yeah. As promising as Lennon looks, it's not as if he's going to walk into the first team on the wing ahead of Ljungberg, Pires, Reyes, Hleb et al.

As for the foreigners rule, UEFA are bringing it back to some extent. At some point soon, can't remember the exact time, you will need to have 8 homegrown players in your CL squad of 25, of which 4 must be of that nationality I think.

Oh, and for the record, the last time Arsenal lifted a European trophy, their squad of 16 players had fifteen British/Irish players, of which 13 iirc were English. And that was with Ian Wright missing as well.

One other point to consider for 'the good old days' brigade is that the first team to field an entire team of foreigners were one the so-called great sides in the history of English footie, Liverpool FC in the 80s.

I'll quote a far better source than I for the original point:
Robert Pires says Arsenal are a French team and that the language most people speak in the dressing room is French. Mon dieu! Imagine, people who can speak French speaking French to each other. What is the world coming to?

Secondly, if people want to support Arsenal in the Champs League final they can, if they don't then don't. No skin off my nose quite frankly, I'll still be cheering just as hard as I would with or without the rest of the country's help, and it'll still mean just as much to the club and the fans no matter how little or how many English players we have. :)

Wenger is clever. Why pay over the odds for hiked up English talent when the same can be had elsewhere. I'd hardly say its French though, More Africana’s now too.

I've got a lot of respect for Wenger he has changed the way the premiership is as we know it. He was the one that brought in diet regimes and fitness plans etc... Before he came, players were unhealthy drunken louts! ;)

Foreign imports at a fraction of the cost of similar talented English players? Yes please!

Spurs and home grown tallent, makes you laugh. How much money have they spend on stealing other young tallent from lesser clubs?

Apart from King who is home grown?

When buying it is best to stick to what you know. So he has gone for french tallent naturally as he is french. He has also picked out some great other buys that are not french. Spanish...Swiz...Germans...african...even english of late (walcott).

Only an idiot would pay over the odds for players that arent as good.

At the end of the day its 11 vs 11 and you are going to get the best players for your club wherever they are.

Good luck for the final!!!

I don't think anyone has issues with foreigners playing for their clubs - just the number of them. I personally would love to see the 3 foreigner rule brought back (except for extending it to 5 foreign players). I think the idendity of domestic clubs can & will be hurt if this carries on.

If it was me, and I was an Englishman playing for an English club, and I was sat in my teams dressing room every other week struggling to have that much banter because all the other players were speaking French/Spanish/Italian, etc. I'd be pretty p***** off.

If English players wern't so rediculously overpriced then mabye teams would have more english players in them, but they are just too expensive, Ferdinand for 29 Mill ? He's not worth that in a million years and never was, only cost that much because he's english. There are few defenders i'd put worth that much, Cannavaro and Nesta in their prime, and they are two of the finest centre backs of the last 10/20 years.

Wenger wants value for money, and you simply don't get that with British players, Eboue cost 150k, take Reading who signed Leroy Lita, unlikely to be of international class ever, may be up to lower prem class, mabye not and he cost Reading 1 MILLION to buy off us. So one plyer who may possibly be of prem class (lower) for a million or Eboue who has already shown he is easily prem class and can slot right into one of the top teams for almost a tenth of the cost.

Spot on.

Its time more money was spent on youth development and acadamy set ups instead of going into fat directors pockets.
a lot of the nog teams pay little more than lip service to this - take a look at Man Utd and Leeds in recent times and the Boro side of today for good examples.
It can be done and can be very profitable.

Nobody noteworthy then. Only name I recognise is Pennant and that's for all the wrong reasons.

It's a fair criticism of Wenger imo. Buy cheap continental players and bring very little through. I wouldn't be very happy if the dressing room was French speaking at Man Utd. If I went to play in Spain then I'd expect to speak Spanish. Maybe I'm just a traditionalist.

Sidwell has been the best player in the Championship, and should be a big hit next season with Reading, Harper is there too. Sidwell is very high rated by Wenger, as has said he may buy him back in the future. Thomas is at Charlton, They were the first players that came into my head, could have named others.
