Arsenal Rant.

I was always led to believe that if your fullbacks are out you play a winger in there.

But i suppose the though of Reyes attempting to tackle made Wenger *shudder*.

He has been rubbish at times when playing LM so I can't even begin to imagine what would happen if he played LB ;)

This left back nonsense is hilarious. A decent team should be able to perform perfectly well with a substandard left back. Last season, we won the CL with Traore at left back and he played every single game, and we had bad injury problems at other positions for most of the season. I think Arsenals problems go far deeper, i.e. the rest of the team is ether old or pants, with the exception of Henry.

Did you also have your CBs and RBs out on the way to winning the CL? I didn't think so either.......Rafa played Traore at LB because he wanted to, not because he was forced to.

Why did Arsenal not purchase a left back even if it was just on-loan during the Transfer window to see out the season, ok he may not of been able to play in the Champions League, but surely a natural left back would be better then a CM playing there, particularly when Arsenal are weak there too?

We are hearing these reasons that oh its the left back this, or we are playing our 8th left back. Yet you have a fairly good defensive record. Hleb I think was just a waste of money. I think Arsenal have just been unlucky that so many of their players are playing so badly all at the same time, and Arsenal have the problem that they simply can't change the way they play, not like the other big guns, who can vary their style.

But then again, what do I know, I'm a happy Hammer :D

Both Cole and Clichy were expected to be back in Jan or Feb. Clichy had a set back and is out till April at the earliest, and Cole got injured again tonight.

******* typical of our season.

The thing is, I don't view that as 'unlucky'. You don't have a divine right to win matches, and if a bunch of your team is playing poorly at the same time, that isn't bad luck, it's bad play by the team.

It's the same as when people say "we were so unlucky, we murdered them, if we hadn't of missed 3 sitters we would have won". Missing the sitters = bad play = don't deserve to win.

Having just spent £96 on seeing arsenal play at Anfield, Goodison Park and Ewood Park I have to agree with the OP. We are poor. There is no bottle in the midfield and rather than trying out luck forward we pass it back to our defence. Sure that means we don't give the ball away and counts as a "completed pass", and unfortunetly it means statistically Wenger is going to think more of them then those that are prepared to take more risks. I just wish he would instill an aspect of clinical finishing in the team, rather than, "create an amazing chance...if we don't score, we'll spend five minutes creating another chance." Wenger must see that this isn't working, even if we return to boring boring arsenal, I don't care, i'd rather we played cack and win all the time!

There is also a clear lack in confidence going forward which isn't going to score goals away from home (3 0-1's), and all it takes is one daft mistake defensivly for us to concede. I saw on saturday Adebayor miss from all of two yards out with a feeble shot, and Pires roll it back to the edge of his box rather than shoot in the one-on-one situation he was in. He wasn't in a particularly tight angle either.

We are poor this season, and tbh I don't know what to make of it. David Dein is right (I think it was him who said) that Freddie, Pires, Gilberto have all lost a yard of pace and lot of guts :(

I originally didn't think that much of Viera last season as I felt he consistently disappeared from our big games, and welcomed around £14m for him. However the reason we were second was because against games where a physical aspect was required e.g. bolton, everton, boro he got stuck in. It's no coincidence that Juventus have a fantastic defensive record this season. Also watching a season review for the last couple of years, it was very apparent that most of our goals at some point, had a bit of Viera to do with it.

Thierry is also not captain material. Possibly the second best striker in the world, but he's far to quiet and has shown this season that he can not lead by example or give a war cry. Many a time you want your captain to appear, but he just sits behind the defence and get's upset that no perfect balls are being put through for him. What has also annoyed me is that against Everton and Liverpool, he ran inside at fulltime and didn't even acknowledge the away fans. That's poor. Get out, your attitude stinks.

Theres a kodak moment. Someone on here saying Henrys second best! :p
Who's the best then, iyo?

Strikers rarely make good captains. They're too far upfield to make much of an impact on the team.
A captain needs to be a GK, preferably a defender, or a holding midfielder.

I was thinking it was good news too, but for different reasons.
A sprain + another week or 2 off might actually help his other foot recover completely. We need him fully fit for the WC:)

His foot recovered ages ago :p

It's his thigh that's been the problem since the boro game. Stupid fool didn't warm up properley.

It pains me to say but Ronaldihno (sp) is miles better. I admit to not seeing every match that he plays in, but I've seen him play (thanks to sky :O) in the Spanish league, Euro Champs League and for Brazil and he seems to do equally well for them. That might have something to do with service but I even bet that if half his first team was injured he'd still get stuck in from time to time.

An interesting thought (not my own invention admittidly). But when footballers have strains from not warming up properly they should be fined for the duration that they're out. You very rarely hear of strains in players of other sports from failure to prepare for a match properly. Any other career would find that negligent behaviour why not football? That'd teach the buggers.

In Cole's case it wasn't his fault. He only got to the corner flag to start warming up and got called back straight away to come on.

I'm sure Cole could have said he wasn't warm and would come on in 5 minutes. IIRC we were either 2 or 3 up at the time.

I agree we should have given him more time as we were cruising the game at that stage. I'm sure I saw him say something about how he would have prefered more time to warm up. At the end of the day it was Wenger's decision to bring him straight on rather than give him more time.

I was also quite surprised at the time that he let him play the rest of the game. Iirc, he said he was only going to give him 15 minutes at the end of the game so as we were going to win I thought he might have taken him off early.

Ronaldinho isnt a striker though. ;)

LOL mwah! :D

Really? Attacking midfielder? I saw the 4-3-3 formation that barcelona used against chelsea and he was up front with Eto and Messi so I presumed he was a striker!

In that case I take that back. Well sort of. On his day, and when he can be bothered Henry is by far the best striker on the planet. However for most of this season....
