Arsenal sign Reyes

I've heard the £24mill figure thown about, I've also 10mill now and 10mill on appearences.

David Dein was in Sevilla the other day and rumours about him talking to madrid about henry appeared. He rubbished them and then it emerged he was talking to sevilla's people about Reyes. Wenger has followed this kid for a long time. He does have a learning disability but I'm not quite sure how bad it is. However we have spanish speaking players and Wenger speaks spanish so we should cope.

This kid is pure class, he is 20 playing at an average club and is already the best left winger in spain. He is like the left sided Joaquin but is even more conistant than him  He shredded R.Madrid into Ribbons when Sevilla whooped them 4-1 earlier on, this kid is the real deal.

Also if we were to get him it had to be now, if he plays in euro 2004 his value will shoot up and he would be beyond our price range.

I'm hoping the deal is done, god bless Wenger and Dein if they have pulled this one off :D

That is the article translated, he might even play against man city

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/3434355.stm

"I'm the happiest man and the saddest man in the world at the same time," said Reyes on his website.

"I'm leaving the best team in Spain to join the best team in England."

Reports of 30 million Euros.
Leads ME to believe, it isnt true, as Arsenal dont spend that kind of cash.
If it is true, i dont think its a road Arsenal need to be going down.

There is almost definitely gonna be a stadium announcement before the end of the month, looks like the funding is done for the stadium

He might be expensive but he is so good. Wenger had been following him for a long time and was determined to sign him no matter what.

30mill euros = 20mill pound. Goes in line with what was said on sky. 10mill now and I think 10mill on appearences I believe.

What position does he play, Left Mid?

He can play upfront but has mainly been used as a left winger. He is a good dribbler and a very good crosser of the ball, has an eye for goal as well.

OK if he plays up front too then i'm happy. 20 Mil is a lot of cash though and is completely out of character for Arsenal to spend so much on 1 player. If it's true he better be good.

He is very good, near enough every big clubs were watching him very very closely. R.Madrid + Barca had already tried to sign him. I did my research on him and asked some spanish footy fans about him a few days ago. I post on an arsenal site and got this info for them. Here is what they said

Reyes is more versatile, he can play left wing, striker, and as a link up man behind the main striker.

It really depends what u want since Joaquin and Reyes play different positions.

I think Reyes is still another year away from finding his top form although he is already maybe the best attacking left winger in the Spanish League.

Joaquin is already world class in my opinion he just suffers from playing for a minnow team.

I see both moving this summer, especially after the Euro.
As for Reyes, he certainly seems to favour a move abroad, and he likes Arsenal's style of play.

I would favour Reyes ahead of Joaquin for the simple reason that he has the edge of Joaquin in terms of consistency...certainly this season.

The fee for Reyes is more likely to be ?20m....can't see Arsenal paying much more than that.
I asked him when he said that he likes our style of play and how much he would cost
He said a while back that Arsenal would be one of his preferred clubs if he left Sevilla.

Not sure on the price, but I reckon Arsenal could persuade Sevila to accept around £13/14m.
I'd be very surprised if Reyes went to Chelsea...he would want to play every game, which wouldn't happen there.

He would be a great success at Arsenal and would fit in perfectly with their style of play. He'd have to work on his defensive qualities a bit more though if he was to play on the left of midfield permanently. He prefers to play through the middle tho...
I wouldn't bet on Arsenal lowering Reyes's price

Anything less than 20 million euros is not going to get him.

If you go lower than that than for sure u attract the attention of other clubs.

Seville are VERY high on him, they won't sell him unless they think its a real good deal.

Without Reyes, Seville is a nobody.
you really think reyes is the best left winger in la liga?

i personally prefer vicente.

Reyes has easily surpassed Vicente. Vicente has not lived up to expectations. There use to be a debate, but not anymore.

Put sky sports on, they are showing clips of him playing.

work  ;)

When you get home watch it then :D

I really hope Arsenal.com don't come out and say he isn't coming. I think I would probably feint :( :p

Wenger has said he hasn't signed officially but will do after his medical which is tomarrow IIRC

I don't think i've ever seeen him play before but am quite happy he is coming after doing a bit of research. Certainly a bit of a coup, wonder what kind of wages he has been offered?

Is he eligible for europe still?

He can play for us in every competition which is really good news for us. Can't wait to see him for us and I do wonder where he will play, maybe as a left winger and let Bobby go upfront?

so the two big boys have new strike partnerships for the rest of the season. :D

Was talking to some fellow gooners about this the other day. We were linked with no one then when Saha went to Man utd suddenly we were being linked with strikers. I think Wenger knew he needed another striker and Man utd buying Saha may possibly be the reason he has gone into the transfer market so quickly.

Torres is very different to Reyes. They are completely different players. Torres will go soon but boy will he command a high fee, they have rejected like £25mill for him in the past.

Just heard he will wear the No.9 shirt so it is almost definite he will play upfront. Also signals the end of Jeffers :D

hehe wasn't Saha given the No.9 shirt as well?

If he clicks into our team quickly he could be one who helps us bring back the title. At times we have needed that little bit extra.

The dickheads on talksport saying the only reason we signed him us coz Henry is definitely leaving  When we don't buy then we are broke, when we do buy suddenly our best player is leaving.

Arsenal.com confirm he has signed for us.

He is good, not world class.............yet ;)

Some gooner on talksport said Guillem Balague said a few years ago that Vieira was seen in madrid and had pretty much signed for madrid and now this same guy is saying Henry is definitely going. LMAO :D Some manc sent an e-mail saying he will flop, then he says C.Ronaldo will do much better lol :D

Could be a good game on Sunday now, I can't wait.:D

I hear he is on his way to London right now to do his medical. He should complete it and sign tomarrow. So he should be available for Sunday :D

Everyone keeps saying R.Madrid always sign whoever they want and convince players. First of Ronaldo + Beckham were unhappy at their clubs when they left. Zidane + Figo left for the money.

R.Madird always get their man? They didn't get Vieira did they? Vieira said just other day that he would not join them now and Henry probabl won't either.

Henry and Arsenal have stated on countless occations that this ain't gonna happen. David Dein said the other day 'This is pure invention. The situation hasn't changed with regards to Thierry Henry and our attitude remains the same - hands off.'

Wenger has £10mill right now, he will get some of the granada money later on and said he should have £20mill by the summer. So that means we will have £3.4mill left in the summer. The rest of the money will be given to Sevilla is small amounts over the next few years which we can easily afford.

Everyone has come to the conclusion Henry is leaving coz of the huge amount we paid for Reyes, we can afford it though.

It's too early to say whcih team has the better partnership, we will need to see how quick Reyes settles in. It may take him a few months.

I am surprised that Arsenal didn't try and get someone like VDV for that kind of money, especially with Bergkamp leaving this summer etc, Van Der Vaart would have been an ideal replacement.

I think Van der Vaart will go for even more than we have paid for Reyes  Also with so many top teams after him we wouldn't of got him. Reyes, VdV + Joaquin - all 3 are superb players and in a few years time I wouldn't be suprised if they are recognized as the best 3 in their positions in a few yrs time. So basically you gotta decide which out of those 3 would suit your club the best.

If this guy is bought with the money saved from off loading Kanu, Jeffers, wiltord and Bergkamp.............
Doest this leave you light up front for cover?
Does this mean a shift to 4-4-2?

Word is its what united are going to go back 4-4-2 and play both Saha and Van Nistelrooy toghether.
Lots of goals all round then.

We got a few kids coming through and Bergkamp might stay on for 1 more year to help the youngsters.

The guys 20 years old, and has been played on the wing at the one club hes played footy at, and yet he can play upfront? Not exactly proven is he!

But as i said, i suppose Wenger has a good track record with converting wingers to strikers.

He has played on the wing and upfront for his club. He can play on either wing and upfront!

He is very highly rated, Barca tried to hijack the deal but offered too little for him. He said he didn't want to join another club in Spain and rejected R.Madrid. Inter were also after him I hear. Houllier was praising this kid a few months ago and even said loads of clubs were after him. I think the main reason we got him is our timing, everyone expected us to make a move in the summer. Gonna be a lot of pressure on him though, Wenger didn't release how much he cost on purpose but I think it has leaked out now!

Also this is the 2nd highly rated spanish player we have taken out of la liga within 1 year! Maybe Wenger is going for spanish instead of french now ;) :p Also goes in line with Wenger bring the age of our team down.

[edit]

He won't be able to play against Man City because of a suspension he picked up in spain :(

I still can't help thinking that another proven forward should have been a higher priority.

I presume Arsene will be trying him upfront, but it's a bit of a gamble.

Problem is not many proven strikers around available now and eligible for the cups we wanna play in. Only cheap player available is Kluivert but tbh I don't think we should get him due to his high wage demands. For many years he hasn't given a damn about playing like he should so he might be happy collecting his large wages doing nothing.

Reyes is really good, he can play so many positions and is young. A few of our best players have come here with a rep of being good but not quite living upto it, Reyes will do fine. He is so good at a young age, wait until he settles in, hopefully will see the best of him then :)

Cheers for the info Gooner14. So that means he has cost us around £10.5mill + £6.5mill on appearences and success. Good deal if you ask me.

Our chairman has come out and said Henry is not going to R.Madrid as well :)

Hopefully VDV will now go to Liverpool in another 'swoop' no notice deal, his girlfriend told the dutch press they had bought a house in Liverpool *crosses fingers*.

TBH I doubt it, so many big clubs will be offering a lot for him. I see him going for over £25mill. So many conflicting stories about him. His girlfriend says he is buying a house, VdV himself says he wants to go to Barca. Chelsea ready to offer big bucks for him and so are R.Madrid.
