Article: Nvidia investing in cloud based GPU streaming technology using current Kepler tech

You can pop a decent graphics card for £80-100 into pretty much any computer that can play games at 720p at highest details with no lag.

Now you want to start a rental service instead?

Surely Nvidia aren't going to invest in a system which requires less in the way of GPU power? I speak from ignorance here but this "unique feature" sounds like it will not make much use of the GPU itself, thereby making the sort of OnLive argument: "if it's streamed to your computer you don't have to spend a lot of money on a top end Graphics card". There is the added problem that at the lower/mid end (where such a program may be beneficial) AMD are the brand of choice with their 78xx/77xx series.

The only way I could see this being profitable for Nvidia was if their partnerships with entities such as Gaikai were on particularly favourable terms

HAHAHA this is about my avarage speeds, using newsgroups i max out around 2.5mbs
and im with talktalk llu copper cable 24meg service.....

no caps :D

and even i consider this speed **** compaired to uks fiber optic 50meg and 100 meg services but we still dont have fiber yet :/

you think UK is bad, try Ireland. or south Africa. OMFG.

Its depressing when you need to rent GPU power. where's the fun in that?

+1. I'm stuck on 1.8mb in the countryside. Things like this will be the death of me and I'd go as far as campaigning against it.

24mb on copper? That can't be right, can it? Copper AFAIK has a lot less capable bandwidth than that.
