Ashes of the Singularity Coming, with DX12 Benchmark in thread.

I also just thought of something else, The Temporal AA has a massive amount of cpu overhead from what i remember. if it used the same type as starswarm.

When i disabled that in star swarm i went from low double digits to over 30 fps.

so even on high settings and with heavy draw calls, the more CPU limited benchmarks could get a good boost in performance.

Yes, if they are still plugging that "movie quality motion blur" of theirs - iirc FPS more than doubled when it was turned off in star swarm, completely pointless option imo
if the game was running at 200fps and turning it on brought it to 100fps then yeah fair enough, but if the game is running at 30fps and turning it off means consistently well above 60 then I really can't see anyone wanting to use it

I think the game could see a far larger gap between DX11 and 12 if Temporal AA was disabled on Nvidia's side of things. but someone would need to have the game and run the test. I think the update dropped today if someone was going to buy it or already owns it.

But then AMD side of things could see an even larger boost overall still.

Yes it does but IMO its implementation could be a lot better.

Since 3.7 CryEngine have been using Temporal AA with Projection Matrix Jittering, the image is Pin Sharp with Minimal Motion Blur and crucially almost 0 performance hit.

I have Temporal AA running here, without it, as you can imagine all that vegetation would be a sea of Jaggies....



Also notice the nice even 8 thread CPU spread.
 
Yeah that is not bad by the looks of it. It looks like Temporal AA in star swarm is very Draw Call heavy from the run i just did, so i am assuming that the temporal AA method in Cryengine uses a completely different method. I also think i was getting a bit CPU limited at times, but it does seem to drop a good amount of fps in the same scenes.

But then i don't have ashes to compare, it could be that they changed their Temporal AA method from the Batch results that AMDMatt showed.

Once or twice could be just within the margin of error but it is on nearly every graph.
You run a benchmark with a set of hardware and you get a result of 100 (an example). Turn off 2 cores and you get a result of 103. something is not right there at all.

I'm not even going to comment on the NVidia results.

They laid out their policy in a forum post re: how they decide what vendor optimizations get implemented. Both sides have code in there.

I'm sure I read somewhere that with Nvidia sponsored games some devs actually declined to use AMD code when they requested?

I think that was with Watchdogs. AMD offered to check and fix some shaders in the engine itself but were refused. Nvidia turned around and said that AMD don't need to see the code.

TBH it is better if code is fixed inside the game itself rather than bodged into and further bloating drivers.

And like with Ashes and future directx12 games. the code needs fixing in the engine itself. I think it is good that they allowed all vendors to see the source and offer optimisations as long as it was at no detriment to other vendors hardware or future expandability of the game.

Looks like your TX went from 62FPs to 107 FPS, like a 73% increase, not bad.

And Kapp gets a small performance drop. So what numbers do you want to believe, small drop or 75% gain? Or maybe the whole ridiculous thing can be ignored and we can wait for an actual DX12 benchmark.
 
Went over the data bud. Here is a nice graph :P

This is for an infinity fast GPU in this test. i just checked his data. Essentially this is just showing what his CPU can output. This data does not indicate what his GPU is capable of, just what his CPU can prepare.

You need to do the test again mate but choose "Full system test" instead.

I pooped the last result on heavy batches, it should be 45FPS for DX11
