How does the speed of the CPU affect those results? Matt's 5960X is much faster than Kaap's.

(And why isn't Ashes picking up the correct CPU speed?)

Most game benches always report the stock speed of the CPU.

I tested the difference a few pages back between 4Ghz and 4.9Ghz at 1080P and the difference was about 1.5fps or thereabouts with 2x Fury X. I would assume that would be lower at 4K as the bottleneck moves towards the GPUs.

Yep, and 1.5fps are still there that you can debate if it goes to error of margin or not. If you run constant runs with same setups, you can have that 1fps variation easily, especially on higher fps averages.

If only Ashes randomly added a uncompressed texture version so the Titan X's 12GB is 'worthwhile'.

Meanwhile, two measly Fury X's spank two Titan X's.

Lets all hope more games come out with extra settings with no IQ improvement at all just to push memory usage up. What is the next Nvidia sponsored game coming out?

Pretty much fed up of certain people insisting 12GB is required for 4k gaming by using exceedingly rare games which have random settings that move up memory requirements with no upside for doing so. If these games actually offered higher IQ with an 8 or 12GB texture pack I honestly wouldn't care.

But higher memory usage for absolutely no visual improvement, the option is there just to try and make 4GB cards look bad. Both games that are known to do this look the same without the uncompressed texture setting being used and then run completely fine on 4GB cards at 4k.


The thing that should irk Nvidia users is rather than work with devs to provide a genuine improvement in texture quality for their 12GB cards they paid massively more to buy, Nvidia is working with devs to make a game run slow for absolutely no reason, no IQ improvement and it's to screw AMD, not help Nvidia card owners.

ALso those circuit traces can be used to help add twice the amount of memory to your card, then you too can run pointlessly inefficient settings for the sake of it without your card running out of memory ;)

For 2160p CPU clockspeed will make hardly any difference at all.

CPU architecture and number of cores will be more important.

The reason the Fury Xs are better @2160p I think is down to memory bandwidth. Low fps but with lots going on in them.

@1080p it looks like the memory clockspeed on the TXs is more important than bandwidth. Lots of fps but with a lot less going on in them.

The other thing that springs to mind is there may be a lot of people using 1080p at the moment but during the lifetime of DX12 this will shift more to 1440p and 2160p.

I think this is the first time I have seen HBM really shine by a good margin when seeing it's performance @2160p compared to 1080p.

Simple logic, games that need the best part of 12gb exist and they are not going to go away. It does not matter what the right's and wrongs of it are these games exist and there are more coming.

Well it's currently out-performing a card that has 12GB of RAM (for less), so... I'd say it's good for now and probably for quite a while yet. You wont see games suffer in any meaningful way for only having 4GB until more than 4GB is a common thing amongst PC gamers. And I bet for every TitanX, there are a Hell of a lot of 980s and below.

It would be nice to see how well Fiji could stretch its legs with a greater capacity of Ram, but it was always a pipe-cleaner for polaris.

Think it like this:

1080p
Graphics queye takes 5ms, you add some compute stuff worth of 15ms.
With async you can hide 5ms from that compute , leaving only 10ms to do after graphics queye has finished it's task.

1440p
Graphics queye takes 10ms, you add some compute stuff worth of 15ms.
With async you can hide 10ms from that compute , leaving only 5ms to do after graphics queye has finished it's task.


2160p
Graphics queye takes 20ms, you add some compute stuff worth of 15ms.
With async you can hide all of that compute , leaving you extra 5ms to do from another compute queye.

So async benefit only grows bigger when there's more demanding graphics queyes on higher resolutions.

Matt, could you try the same settings I'm using. 1120 core with undervolting (I use -12 mV). I can run 1150 with overvolting, but undervolting with lower core gives me better score always. And I do have +50% power settings in use.

I believe it could be vrm's overheating.
 
Matt, could you test native 4k with 8xmsaa on single card with dx12 vs dx11. Just wanna see how the memory handles. As I'm already using all 4GB of my card on 1080p at 4x msaa. If I'm right you should be getting stuttering on dx11, but not on dx12 because 12 handles memory totally different.
