ASRock 775Dual-VSTA for Conroe (Core2) with both AGP/PCI-E and DDR1/DDR2 support

Just as well this board is around as my A7N8X deluxe decided to pack it in over the weekend. I replaced it and my Barton 3000+ with the ASRock board and an E6600. A very good upgrade for £260ish me thinks. My spec is now

Conroe E6600
2 x 512 PC3200 DDR
Nvidia 6900GT
2 x 250Gb WD Hard Drives

I ran some benchmarks against my dads PC (same spec as I had before) and it blows it away.

In real world applications the difference is significant as well, before I could encode high quality divx footage at a max of 15fps, now I can do it at 75fps :D

If anyone wants any specific benchmark scores or tests running let me know!

John

hmm... 1500 more overall... I was expecting a bit more :( 2000+

3dmark05 I am around 4980 with my 6800gt

tnx though... it helped a lot...
I think i need to get a cheap X2 939 for now and just shut my mouth
invest in a nice DX10 gfx in 2-3 months and that will keep me happy for another year or so. hopefully DDR2 would be the only standard by then, and cheaper!!

anyways tnx mate...
P.S. - start saving for mobo and mems... then you will be on a nice level
I am sure u will go around 6500 maybe more.. That would be a wortwhile upgrade!!

3dmark05 is almost all gfx performance related, i suspect that my 6800gt is maxing out long before the cpu is. That said its plenty fast enought at the moment and will do til the dx10 gen cards are around.

The asrock mobo is really only a stop gap as my old one packed in and I couldnt afford new memory and gfx at the moment. For £43 though its the best value bit of my PC now :D

yeah I totaly agree with you...

i just wanted to see the detailed marks from pc mark... to see how much of a work the cpu does in memory and hard drive handling.

generally to get an impression of overall day to day performance increase...

for example.. with aquamark... when i went from a 2gigs t-bred to a 2 gigs amd64 the cpu score went up from 2000 to 8000. which is quite a difference

thats why I was expecting around 2000marks up in pcmark(cpu) from a 2gig amd64 to a 2gig coreDuo, I mean that would be the ideal for me...

anyways.. i am gonna go for an 4600x2 for now.. and go conroe once i can afford a full pack... mobo/cpu/mems.. so I can really appriciate the boost.

enjoy ** rig though... I am sure it will put a smile in you face for a while.. and once u get a dx10 card, then youwould really appreciate its power... :)

I've had mine for a couple of weeks with an e6300 but can't get the fsb past default. It chashes pretty quickly with the FSB at 270mhz :o

Anyway, it will do until I get some ddr2 and the next gen boards come out.

I think the overwhelming opinion is 'It'll do for now until next gen boards and DX10 comes out'

I got my FSB at around 290-300 for a HUGE 200mhz increase. hahah
Considering my RAM is rated at 400mhz cas4, I'm not doing either the E6300 or the Geil ram any favours.

My next purchase is a motherboard that will take me to 3ghz, and after that a DX10 card and maybe a quad core. (mmmmmm quad core)

quad cores mmmmm indeed!!

I just hope AMD's kick the living s*** out of Intel :D

by the way... recent new have revealed that AMD is having power issues..
apparently they need to push more volts 1.4-1.6 to get stability, loosing like that theyr target of achieving the best performing cpu to power consumption ratio

they'll get there eventually

It can take full length x16 cards but the bandwidth is limited to x4. With a PCI-E x4 x800XL I get about 5800 points in 3dmark 2005. Seems about right. Perhaps the bandwidth will become a limitation if you have a top end card but lets face it, if you have a vsta you don't!

this board and my 6800 gt apg will do me fine just now , it sould play bf and war rock etc fine......
i have order my 2 gb of ddr2 ram , and i will get my conroe soon , so should be up and running soon , i am only getting 1345 in 3d 06 and thats with a fx53 and my graphics card , lol so i should see a differance , i hpe !

what graphics cards is everyone using with this board and whats their experience (works or not)? My dads having what seems to be incompatibility problems with the ATi 9700 pro.

Should the Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT be ok?
thanks
Richard

That is what I am using with it.
Its working fine, although I suspect the 4x PCI-E is throttling it a little.

been away on holiday

i got 4986 pcmark. Think might be my IDE hdd that let it down.

Im also going for watercooling, i know i wont get great oc on this board but thinking of future and wanna go back to quietness.
