Still, not an auspicious sign. Either ASROCK found that they couldn't really deliver on this after all, or Intel told them to stop or Intel would go all Intel on them. And I think we all know which of those two it is.
Overclocking was about taking something beyond its regular specs. Now it's about buying the privilege to be able take it up from the below capacity to where the manufacturer could have just set it to in the first place. A little like Coke deciding they want to sell 2.5 litre bottles of coke and advertising it as a 2 litre bottle with 0.5 litres free. Or at least it becomes so with behaviour like this.
Though admittedly, this ship has long since sailed and this incident is just them plugging a loophole someone found.
They will have the Skylake calculation bugs. Bugged CPU or overclocking...
Depends what its bugged in, if its something I wouldn't use then it wouldn't phase me.
Nah, the pre-overclocked stuff always has something along the lines of "overclock only supported with bios recieved".
The non-k bundles have
"Updating the CPU microcode via BIOS update or software may effect the ovreclocking of this bundle. So once installed CPU microcode on provided BIOS should remain the same. We can only guarantee the overclock on the the CPU microcode which is provided when you receive the bundle."
its nice to see all the K chaps went back up in price to the pre none k clocking stage instantly.
its not about what intel want... the motherboard makes should be open to do what they want with there own products. intel made the chip the way it is.
there will continue to be a flow of hacked bios's so i dont see it changing anything

Intel make a killing either way.
Motherboard sales are in the toilet. The reason for that is Intel's strategy of charging a fortune for chips and offering nothing over 5 years.
Blame AMD for not offering any competition, they could have released Steamroller/Excavator based processors on AM3+ (or even developed a better architecture based on K10 by now) but didn't, so Intel effectively have a monopoly.
They buy the most important parts of their 'own products' (chipsets) from Intel and presumably under license, so they simply can't go around negatively impacting Intel's sales.
...and what of AMD's strategy? at least Intel are still releasing new products for them to make money off.
At the end of the day motherboard manufacturers aren't forced to make motherboards for Intel, if they are still releasing new motherboards then they obviously feel there is still money to be made. Attempting to increase their own sales by biting the only hand that is currently feeding them is simply asking for trouble.
what would intel do tel,l all the makers you can use are product lol
why is everything down to amd all the time, overclocks had stock when the prices changed... its down to demand and shops
