Asrock Z68 Extreme4 LAN problem

Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
If the network adapter supports this option, it is available on the Power Management tab of the network adapter properties dialog box. To resolve this issue, disable this option on the Power Management tab. For more information about how to disable this power management option, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
811595 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811595/ ) "A network cable has been unplugged" message appears at seemingly random intervals
The value for the Media Type property on the network adapter may be set to Auto Select. This property is located on the Advanced tab of the network adapter properties dialog box. To resolve this issue, change the value of the Media Type property to a specific bandwidth. For example, set the value to 10Mbps/Full Duplex, to 100Mbps/Full Duplex, or to an optimum value.

clicky
not sure if anything useful there

Thanks Para but no luck

OK, I am starting to doubt it is windows,

Laptop - from a full power off with the network cable attached, as soon as the power button is pressed the router shows there is a device attached to it (light comes on)

PC - from a full power off with the network cable attached, the router light does not come on at all :/

that would indicate to me the socket is broken :( it should flash when contact is made, so it would indicate on powerup its looking, cant see anything so goes out.

lol SoundsGood yeah it is - I know what you mean though, even the simplest things can be overlooked.

Well its not looking good then, oh well I suppose only having 1 component go bad since my DX2-66 is not bad.

Any other ideas before I start the returns procedure, its a real pain as im in ROI :/

i really cant think of anything. if the light was coming on everytime you plugged it in, i would say software issue. as its not, i would say something has messed the socket up :(

Not tried it out of the case because of grounding, the motherboard screw holes look like they earth it.

I have however disassembled the PC, checked the motherboard for any signs of damage (there is none), reassembled it without the backplate (in case there was any pressure forcing a dry joint to open).

Running motherboard / CPU stock / cooler stock / ram stock / PSU / 1 HDD / keyboard & mouse / graphics through onboard / nothing else

Still having the same problem, nothing to do with windows as there is no recognition of a connection by the router when the computer is turned on, I guess it is time to sort out an RMA :(, wish this could have been sorted out here, I have only have the board for 2 weeks and its only been powered on for 10 hours or so.

Again any last hopes of me missing something obvious and stupid?

the only think i can suggest is a live cd/usb stick. i dont remember if the lights come on during boot or when windows loads, never really looked.

Para - have you got a link to something like that, is live linux, all i seem to get is live music websites :)? I have a puppy linux, but its a CD and I dont have a cd drive ATM

search linux mint or linux ubuntu. im not sure which one you would prefer :p

then use clicky to make the iso a bootable usb stick ;)

lol I suck at linux, I cant even get the input devices working on it.

Damn small linux (only have a 128meg usb) boots up ok but I have no input method :(
