Assange to go!

Just shows we need a mechanism to recover costs from those who set out to evade the law.

I don't think it shows anything of the sort. It shows we've got no problems with wasting a colossal amount of money on dubious grounds.

They have had an entire team of officers posted in the embassy building, equipped with heat sensing cameras and other "advanced" detection technology.

No wonder it's cost us 12m! An entire team of police offers to watch over Assange!

What a joke. Somebody ought to be fired for sanctioning that kind of waste.

When did he first enter the embassy?
How many officers or equivalent have been stationed there?
I still don't actually comprehend how they have managed to run this bill up to £12M.

Given operational budgets and other various gubbins, I'd love to see a breakdown of investigations totally more than £1M, just so we get a list of where the bulk of the money is being spent/wasted.

So allegedly the Police have said they will maintain an interest in arresting him should he leave the embassy by means of covert and overt policing.

Kind of begs the question why they didn't decide to do that 3 years ago?

So if the Police decide to spend £10m chasing someone for pinching a Mars Bar from Lidl that person should pay those costs?

Given that the alternative is that the law abiding taxpayer picks up the bill, yes.

Under Swedish law most Men in this country would be considered rapists

What is it about assange that leads people to constantly make apologies for rape?

Is rape OK if you are a lefty or something?

Innocent until proven guilty, and he won't get a fair trial in Sweden.

A monumentous waste of money, pandering to the US because Assange has embarrassed them.

Also brings to question why policing, in this case people stood around doing nothing, costs so much.

Why on earth won't he get a fair trial in Sweden? Actual, valid reasons not made up conspiracies needed. Sweden (and indeed the UK) are orders of magnitude less corrupt than equador...

I assumed the boundaries of the embassy would be the boundaries of the property, but in the pic there are police inside the fence and on the doorstep. I was imagining Assange coming onto the front step to stretch his legs and having a chat over the wall with the police.

Oi! You'll find a great deal of "lefties" are strongly opposed to Assange and think he should face trial. Most people I've seen defend him are libertarians.

His cowardice in failing to face fair trial is pathetic.
