Assange to go!

Why would he make stuff up? I don't know, maybe to get some sort of benefit from the US, trade related, money, aide, maybe a personal bribe; endless possibilities really. He may be exaggerating some partial truths. Look at the actual questions the BBC is asking, they're very leading questions - as if they already know the outcomes and are just giving him a reason to say what he wants to say.
It was Nicholas Witchell. He's been royal correspondent for ages; has perfected to the extreme the art of being a complete kiss-arse to anyone in high office.

Can't stand the bloke myself. I don't often take such an immense dislike to journalists as I have to him. He's horrid. Such a suck-up. I genuinely believe he's been around royalty so long he thinks he's part of the nobility.

I wonder how much it would cost to pay off a few Equadorians to exaggerate a story about him.

But it wasn't exaggerated or made up. The Ecuadorian embassy staff took photos of Assange's dirty protest, which they have already shared with the media. Assange's lawyers have confirmed the existence of the photos. So now you're essentially arguing against Assange's own lawyers about an event they have formally confirmed.

Assange is guilty of exposing US war crimes, hence every charge against him.

Hell I remember Snowden effectively being called a dirty pathetic c*nt because he was once only a security guard before he got his high-level intelligence/security clearance, and therefore demands our universal condemnation as a subversive sub-species of working-class serf, as dictated by the media.

That only reflects the extreme contempt those in power hold of those who aren't also holding extreme power, which goes double for those attempting to do independent journalism that exposes those unaccountable to authority and instead holds them to public account.

Loony leftist and die hard Assange fangirl Caitlin Johnstone has dumped yet another hysterical puff piece onto the internet. This time she's demanding that the Australian government brings Assange home to protect him from American extradition.

Caitlin doesn't explain how the Australian government can achieve this legally, considering we have an extradition treaty with the USA.

Meanwhile, some random members of the Twitterati are asking people to waste their money on a bunch of irrelevant posters that nobody will care about:

It's all rather hilarious.

You’re a bit slow here, that’s the reason he was hiding in the Embassy in the first place!

Since then Sweden has dropped the request and he’s been imprisoned re: skipping bail. He’s also being potentially extradited to the US, something you claimed they weren’t looking to do earlier in the thread.

Can’t be extradited to two places at the same time, it would appear that Sweden has first pick.

We can finally put to bed the idea that Sweden would have extradited him afterwards.

No it wouldn’t. Again, Sweden are no longer looking to extradite him... he hid in the embassy to avoid that!

He’s no longer wanted by Sweden, the US do however want to extradite him.

Do you guys not read newspapers or something?

They gave up on a few counts because they passed deadlines (2015), there’s still one count that is valid I believe, whether it’s enough for a official request is questionable.

The Swedish prosecution service said it is considering it.

Yes they are and there is some political pressure for them to do so. They might well look to extradite him again, currently though it is the US that is looking to extradite him and they have a hearing tomorrow I believe.

It would be deeply awkward that his stay in the embassy actually solidified his chances of being extradited to the US.

Had he simply faced the court in Sweden, not only would he have served less time than his isolation, but there was a chance he could have been proven innocent of the charges.

Seems rather worthless now, as his charge in the US will get him 1 to 20 years (the literature is verbose, and I really can’t be assed on a phone).

Quite possibly yeah, though the US might well have sought to extradite him from Sweden too by the time any trial had concluded or indeed sentence served.

From reading the BBC article, he's got 50 weeks in a UK Prison which should be childs play to him. The article also mentioned that if he was convicted in the US for federal conspiracy charges (which is what any extradition would be for) he'd only get 5 years. OK, it wouldn't be any fun, but it's doable, and he might have even been able to win the case anyhow.

The swedish stuff smells like bs. Always has, I doubt anything will ever come of that.

He would serve around 5 in the US that he will likely be found guilty of, at this point he might as well just get it over with.

Come out and just figure out a new life away from all this mess.

They weren't looking to do it before. They only started preparing the indictment late last year (November, IIRC).

Remember the good old days, when Trump supporters claimed that Hillary wanted to snatch Assange away to the USA, and that's why people shouldn't vote for her? Now Trump is trying to do it...

:D
