Assasins Creed was all hype

Gameinformer are unreliable, they got the exclusive first review by giving the high score ( also the fact that it is owned by a retailer ).

Gamepro, no good either.

The only reliable opinion is your own unfortunately. But based on the reviews ranging from 7 to 10, that's enough for me to still be buying it.

I think it's possible that Assissin's Creed has been given a more thorough review than most games would get, based purely on how much everyone really wanted/hoped it to be perfect. As such, it seems some people have picked up on small flaws and felt it hurt the overall game (resulting in the 7/10's, which is still a good score by the way.)
i don't want to push it and get a suspension but i will say.....good...
Thanks.

Reviews with the lower scores seem to be centering on the fact it gets repetative either pickpocketing, assassinating or looking in on other peoples conversations.

Seems a poor criticism in my opinion you could say any game is repetative

football games - trying to score a goal every game
fps shooters - shooting the enemy all the time

how they can say assassins creed is repetative and not lay the criticism at other games recently released i fail to see.

Its a great game

That's my thinking too, all the reviews picked up on the same flaws, yet one reviewer thought enough to warrant to mark it to a 7, and one warrant to leave it at 9. So, it is clearly that the flaws are very dependent person from person.

They all do agree the game looks great, never drops a framerate, HUGE worlds, if you can touch it, you can climb it...etc. Lots of positives,

I think from looking at the reviews and mention of tearing and other flaws I will just wait for this to be a bit cheaper. I dont really see the need to rush out and buy it. I will probably be able to pick it up for peanuts by the time I finish Mass effect.

also on the IGN review page for assasins creed is the press average from 12 reviews (8.9) and the user average of 9.0 from 400 odd ratings. although sometimes it might be worth taking the user average with a pinch of salt as people tend to over (or under) react a lot.

i'm still getting it :)

I'm fine with 7.7. I've never played the assasins creed games, nor do I know about the plot. This title is a filler for me until Mass Effect comes out. Now if that gets a low score I seriously will cry.

If Mass Effect averages under 90% on gamerankings I'll be astonished. Still not my type of game though sadly.

Well, decent RPG's are a rare thing tbh, and the last one I played was er....Blade Runner comes to my mind. I'd love to get my hands on a half decent rpg game - although Sci-fi rpg's aren't really my thing. Still, it has alien boobehs! :D

I'm seeing two camps forming with the reviews for Assassin's Creed.

Camp A: The 9/10 + reviews clearly see the game as more than the sum of it's parts, judging the game as an overall experience rather than allowing minor flaws to be too much of an issue.

Camp B: The 7/10 reviews, still liked the game, but felt that some of the minor niggles did hurt the overall experience for them, and as a result couldn't give it as high a score as they would have liked to.

I'm 99% certain I will be in camp A.

What I don't get is a game with minor flaws that is called either Halo 3 or Bioshock still get there 10/10's

Yet this has some minor niggles and gets slapped down a few points.

How many reviews whinged about various things in Halo yet still slapped a massive score on it?

I didn't really think either were worth any more than an 8 tbh. That's going from past greats like the orignal Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Half-Life etc.

Both were just samey shooters. Assassins Creed is at least attempting something slightly different and giving a lot of freedom. Not that I'm bothered, as soon as I have shifted Halo 3 i'm getting Mass Effect.

The Zero Punctuation guy hated both Halo 3 and Bioshock, only game he liked and he said he'll stab his eyes before saying that again is Portal in the Orange Box lol
I normally agree with ZP but I absolutely hate Portal! Maybe it's because I played it once and got to the er second level or map and never returned to the game :) I can't wait to see him review AC :D

All the best games always bring something new, and it makes you go "wow!", I'm not talking graphics here, they wear off eventually, which is why Crysis won't be remembered as a "great" game. CoD had it's scripted but immersive cinemtaic gameplay, Half-Life it's incredible AI and good enough story, Deus Ex the many ways it could be played along and multiple endings.
