Assassin's Creed this Friday, whose getting it ?

Thats one thing that annoyed the hell outta me, when I got the game yesterday through the post there was a dent in the case which ****ed me off no end.
 
Can i reccommend you try to extract the dvd to your hard drive using something like CDRoller or CloneCD? Maybe then you will at least be able to install it ;)

tried it, the data4.cav file simply will not budge :( finish work early today though so ill test out a SATA DVDRW in a bit and see if that one works
 
well went into a highstreet game retail store...and there were no copies on the shop floor due to there being no bbfc rating on the disks...gj! so i asked someone about it and they sold me one anyway, so i have to wait to get home to see if i get the ill fated data4.cab error :/

if you do get the problem try the following before giving up hope:

update DVD drive firmware
try forcing the CD to install at a low speed
try copying the files off the disc

those have worked for a few people on the ubisoft forums, sadly though not me

its either something to do with the way its dual layer or something to do with the copyright protection that stops it from installing with certain DVD drives, unsure of which it is at the moment though

How big is the file? Perhaps someone can send it to you.

If you can't get it working, just pirate it.

If you can't get that to work then i guess your only other option to get playing it asap is to dl it from a torrent site, surely thats perfectly acceptable to do seeing as you've bought it!

Google 'Assassins Creed data4.cab', you can get it off isohunt, data4.cab is 2gb

currently installing as i type with the SATA DVD drive i got from work, fingers crossed

though if this doesnt work i might try what has been suggested and download data4.cab off the net and just copy the rest of the files off the disc
 
WOHOO ITS WORKING :D

looks like the change of DVD drives is the way forwards for anyone having problems, installs not completely finished yet but its only abotu 3 blocks from the end whereas before it was always in the same place it would fail

Have now tried slowing my dvd drive down but that hasnt made any difference. Will have to wait til the weekend i think to try it on a friend's pc. Anyone know if i can return the game to an etailer as if it doesnt read on my pc properly then its not fit for purpose?
