Assassin's Creed Unity

The main issues as far as I could see were in cut scenes the frame rate was appalling. I have yet to fall through the floor like some I've seen, still playable though!

Oh yeah it's definitely playable. There's been a couple of occassions where there's lots of people fighting me, in a crowded area, with smoke, and it's pretty slow, but hopefully they can fix that.

The game looks incredible though, I guess that's the trade off. Lower the graphics and people moan, up the graphics and it's a bit choppy, so people moan.

I'm finding it a lot harder than Black Flag, going up against more than 3 people a few times I've been destroyed. Maybe I'm just not used to it yet.

I'm holding off playing this until they (hopefully) sort the bugs out, GTA5 is around the corner so that will pass the time.

With the right optimisations there shouldn't have to be much of a trade off. As an example; Metro: Last Light looks fantastic on the PS4 yet runs at 1080p 60fps constantly.

There is no excuse for how Unity runs.

There's some good posts on Reddit about why the game, under the surface of the performance issues, is actually very good, worth a read if you're on the fence:

"I believe that this game would have been 9/10 game if it wasn't plagued with people dismissing the game primarily for performance issues, micro transactions that are optional, advertising their app and whatnot"

No, it might have been been a 9/10 game if it didn't have those issues in the first place. That's down the developer and publisher, not the people who don't like it.

It's no wonder Ubisoft, EA et al think they can get away with pulling stunts like this when you have apologists such as the above recommending people buy the game anyway and "hope the issues get fixed". What a stupid attitude.

Gamers are just idiots - this thread and some of the remarks just prove it when they attempt to gloss over issues that shouldn't exist

ps3ud0

I'm not glossing over issues, the poor performance and the bugs shouldn't be there, I agree with that. I'm also beginning to realise that Ubisoft are not one of the good guys in the gaming world, but I'm also not completely blind to the fact that Unity is actually a damn fun game so far.

Hopefully the issues are fixed soon. For me it's only the performance that's the issue, I've not encountered any glitches yet, and the odd character popping in doesn't really bother me as I tend not to notice it.

Microtransactions don't bother me too much, the only annoying thing is if the game is a grind BECAUSE they wanted them in the game. I'm not sure if that'll be the case with this or not to be honest, I haven't played it enough.

Companion app stuff, I quite like it, I enjoyed the Kenway's Fleet stuff in Black Flag so I'll hopefully enjoy the nomad missions in this too.

If I'm an idiot gamer because I gloss over issues and actually have fun with the game, then so be it, I'd rather spend my time enjoying a game than moaning about it online, even if that does make me an idiot.

How much of a grind is there if you don't want to make any microtransactions?

Also, what do they actually unlock?

No idea, I've only played a couple of hours so far. Basically you can buy Helix points, which allow you to buy weapons, customisable items, equipment, upgrades, etc. Looking at the cost of those things with points you earn in game it's not that big of a deal if you don't want to pay for it.

I've finally got to the point where I can properly customise my gear and stuff which is nice. I'm really enjoying it so far. Can't wait to get stuck in properly this weekend.

I don't think you should be allowed micro transactions in console game unless you give the game away for free or a severely reduced price.

I don't think EA would like that, they must make a killing through Ultimate Team in FIFA, Madden, NHL, etc.

I honestly don't have that much of an issue with this sort of thing if its done in the right way but its a really slippery slope I fear. You can see already what has happened to the quality of a lot of games being released now when developers have the power to patch games quickly and easily after release.

Soon enough a lot of games will require micro transactions just to allow you to compete in multiplayer or open up certain parts of games. I just think its super douchy and completely unnecessary with full price console games.

Apparently they are releasing a patch ASAP that will fix the issue with microtransactions and then a second patch will fix actual gameplay bugs. This is the sort of thing that really shows you how companies see their customers.

I'm about two hours in and broadly enjoying it and not really encountered many issues to be honest.

The framerate has been pretty solid, even when I've been running through highly populated areas. Although in the very first part I did get frustrated when I was trying to do simple things like getting through a window, or jumping up a small barrier - it simply wouldn't let me.

I've only noticed one major glitch with characters 'breaking', and that's at the end of one of the chapters where I'm in a large room full of people. It won't let me through gaps, or allow me to push through people (invisible barriers) and then I see two characters occupying the same space part the way up a column. That's not so good.

The graphics are extremely impressive though, but the transition between character animations is rubbish. I will go from one animation (walking for example) to interacting with something and there's a jump between the two - it's missing the transition. All the characters seem to do this and is really quite jarring and takes you out of the immersion.

Gameplay wise I've only touched the surface so far, but finding buildings a bit too easy to climb. I don't remember any of the previous games allowing me to climb up seemingly sheer, smooth walls with no problems - it seems to remove much of the skill. I've literally just climbed the first church with absolutely no thought or problem at all. Hmm.
