Assassin's Creed Valhalla

I can't play it yet on the Epic Game store but have Express VPN. Can I change my location to allow access to it now somehow please?

I pretty much agree with Tombstone on this.

For me this is pretty much your typical Assassin's Creed / Ubisoft game. It doesn't do anything particularly good and doesn't do anything particularly bad.
I watched Eso play some of this and it struck me as legion in a different dress. Then reading here the engine is from 2014, it's like a fifa release now

Yeah this is the last AC game to use Anvil2 before Anvil3 comes, all game engines have a life span so thats fair enough. Truth be told, its quite remarkable just how much they have gotten out of a 6 year old engine.

Played about 4 hours so far and the game looks gorgeous with everything maxed on a 3090. The combat system seems to be an improvement over odyssey and is a lot of fun so far. Looking forward to staying up late tonight and exploring some more :)

Same for me so far will stick with it for now.

How you break crates and loot etc reminds me of old games about 20 years ago and combat seems a bit clunky. Bows are nice!

Played for about an hour last night and just got 'home'.

Its once I got "home" that the game really started to click for me, dont get me wrong with my initial thoughts, I still very much like the game (8/10 isnt a score to be sniffed at !) just not as much as I liked Origins and Odyssey......not yet at least. I'm about to continue playing now and will write a "thoughts part 2" once I am further into the game to see how/if my thoughts have changed on anything

One strange thing, dont know if this is a bug or not, but with the ultimate edition you get some free runes, thing is...every time I log in, its giving me another set of those runes. So now I've got half a dozen sets of the same runes

Also, I know whats been bugging me about the camera, its not centered behind the character, its offset to the right so that your character is more on the left of the screen rather than dead centre. Been trying to put my finger on what it was thats annoying me and just realised now. I hope they put in some option to move the character to the centre, feels really weird to me to not be directly behind the character

Really not clicking with the combat, it's super floaty and spammy, really lacks weight and impact, feels worse than odyssey which already was a downgrade on origins. I'm playing on Hard difficulty, it just isn't particularly enjoyable. I suspect I've been spoiled by the gameplay in ghost of tsushima which is head and shoulders above this in terms of fighting gameplay.

It's Origins/Odyssey with a reskin, new skills and base building(sort of)

If you liked any of the previous games ^^ you'll instantly be at home with this, it's great.

One thing I have a major problem with is weapon swapping, it just doesn't seem to work for me no matter what I press ??

I've played it a little today and am impressed with some features but less so with others. How could Ubisoft do such little research that they did'nt realise Eivor is a female name?

The combat is a little rubbish and the stamina thing is a bit naff. If it was an Odyssey reskin it would have kept a lot of the best parts I think.

For some reason I keep getting myself caught on fire - any easy way to put myself out - odyssey you could just do a forward roll or jump in water (appears I have a problem with fire)?

Shall keep at it though; enjoying it's atmosphere.

I dont really have any issue with the name Eivor, after all, Michael is a male name yet the actress who played the mother in The Waltons was named Michael Learned. If I can believe that (and obviously I have to as its fact) then I can accept that there may have been a viking in the Dark Ages named Eivor.
