Assault rifles and military-style semi-automatics have been banned in New Zealand

It's physically impossible for another Dunblane to happen.
What is hard to understand about that, it's pretty definitive!

Personally I'd like to see the UK guns laws strengthened, I have no doubt lives would be saved if we followed the strict & sensible Japanese approach :

No, he is saying that a spotty kid from OCUK would not be able to get a gun easy.....Lets rock up and buy a gun from some gangsta dude in my corsa. Gangsta dude will take his money, smash his car up, tell him to jog on and get walking after slight thrashing.

What about buying guns on the dark web/net?

lawl
The Mac10 in 5mins springs to mind!!

What about buying guns on the dark web/net?

Which is HIGHLY risky, if you're not robbed of your bitcoins you then run the massive risk of getting caught importing and getting locked up for 10years. All that before you've even step outside to commit a crime.

I'm confused by this statement, you're saying that it's physically impossible to get banned guns in this country?

He's saying it's impossible for somebody to shoot up a school with legal handguns, because there are no legal handguns any more

He's basically playing mental gymnastics with semantics

Fair enough, and we therefore have an agreed disagreement with different opinions, which is fine :)

I think it is a great pity that some of the pro-gun arguments put forward in this thread have not been as reasoned or eloquent.

The frustrating thing for me is if you live in the US and would rather live in a society where guns are banned or live in a country with strict gun laws and would prefer something more like the legislation in say Switzerland you don't have much in the way of options - for most people moving country isn't a realistic option.

No I'm pointing out the reason the law was passed! (The state and it's civilised citizens don't want ANY part in another gun massacre)
Unless you think they passed the law thinking it would stop people getting guns illegally

Even that isn't quite correct - you can legally own a handgun in this country after some silly (aesthetically) modifications giving it a massive stock and extended barrel.

Opps, I left of the legally part.

Like I said, obviously people are going to still buy guns illegally but it makes things MUCH harder.
If you think that Thomas Hamilton could have easily obtained the guns he used from the black market then I'm afraid you're very ignorant.

If we were truly civilised we would not need the laws to keep us in check :)

It is an interesting fallacy that the pinnacle of a civilised society is one that has divest itself of all weapons - a truly advanced civilised society could wield the most deadly weapons with absolute responsibility. Not sure what you do with the madmen though that would still exist in both :s

Black market gun dealers aren't stupid, they will sell guns to gang members, criminals, associates ..etc
Selling a gun to some weird dude with no gang or criminal connections ? lawl
They ain't stupid, they know he could be planning something big, they don't want that kinda heat.
