Hi,

I am really into assetto in VR at the moment. I have my t500 wheel setup nicely and the game is running super smooth and looking quite good in the headset.

Flat out in the skyline R34 round the nurburgring is breathtaking at times. Lock camera to horizon and the inclines and decents feel real, one corner in particular gives a feeling of my stomach being left behind. It really is the highlight of vr for me at the moment. The engine sounds could do with a tweak in places and maybe a touch more sense of speed if that is even possible and this game is as good as it gets.

I'm also using the 370z a lot at the moment because I plan on buying one soon. So taking it for a virtual test drive! lol

Seriously though, if you like project cars and have not tried this its definitely worth a shot. 9/10!!

I'd seriously love to but can't get it to work in OR...my CPU may be the problem, but it's only causing problems in AC, the only other game that gives me problems is PCars2...

I'm using the rift.

What problems do you have exactly Born2Bslow?

Just did a 8min12sec in the 370z. At least I have the bottle in VR to give it the full beans.

I'll try the Skyline r34 and upload a youtube vid.

I was so looking forward to AC and decided to wait until it got native Vive support. I've read so many reviews saying how much better it is than Project Cars but after an hour and a bit of playing around my initial impression is its not as good, quite a long way off. To be fair I have 55hrs on PC compared to 90 Mins on AC and I have spent many hours tweaking PC until it works really well. I think the sound is better on AC and it seems to be better optimized from the start. I imagine it probably runs much better out of the box but once PC is dialed in to match whatever system you may have I would say PC has the edge. There also doesn't seem to be nearly as many cars and tracks without paying for extra DLC

It just crashes every time I fire it up...my cpu is below min spec according to the stats, but I did a steam vr test and got a 10.9 so don't know what's going on...

I was going to see if the latest update would fix things but ended up getting Motorsport manager and got engrossed. Will try it tomorrow, I've just started a PCars career in VR in the frookie, and it's awesome...I've always spent more time on PCars but I do like to do the AC timetrials.

I love both games and racing in pcars is amazing but I never really felt like it compares to the way the cars feel and respond in AC. I've spent probably equal time in each game but the cars always feel vague or soft in pcars with a lot less feedback as to what is really happening with the cars. Try a time trial or practice run on the ring in similar cars in both games let me know what you think? I may well need to work on the settings in pcars to get the most out of it but I get such a buzz in ac flat out and linking corners together at the nordeschleife I dont remember pcars ever feeling that good.

Atleast for PC there is a ton of 3rd party made cars (many of which are high quality but some exceptions) and tracks, though sadly many unofficial tracks are poorly ripped from other games and don't work well.

Some cracking mods in AC, I think you mistyped rroff:), PCars car and track list isn't exactly small though, enough to keep me busy anyway. Have you tried the jack spade ffb tweakers David?

I've compared AC vs PC before and have to say I found the ffb at default in AC too much...it just got on my nerves, rattled my teeth and I had to turn it down. I think I use visual cues more than ffb tbh, because once I'm on it I don't even notice any differences between them...I know a lot of people are very sensitive to ffb but I must not be particularly.

I'm following the AC mod for the 2005 transit that Sabine took round the ring. There is a Ford transit mod already but it's the sport version so it's not the same van. All of this is on hold until I can get it up and running in my rift though. Can't go back to my triple screens now...it's just too good in VR.

Not mistyped I meant that on PC AC has lots of mods - the possibility of confusing PC with PCars wasn't made at the time I posted - I'm not sure what there is on the console in terms of additional content for AC.

AC is getting on my nerves at the moment though :( not sure if its just my wheel or a deeper problem but after a lot of experimenting it seems that speed scaling of the wheel input is randomly kicking in even with it set to zero - occasionally getting abnormal understeer which doesn't seem consistent with what is going on with the car and I found that I can still steer out of it using key input for direction but not the wheel :|

Does AC have native Vive/SteamVR support yet? I really cba with the whole ReVive thing but would be interesting to try.

Saying that pre-VR I always preferred iRacing to AC anyway so doubt that'll change much, VR around the ring in iRacing is pretty awesome, way better sense of elevation than I got with triple monitors makes it so much better.

It supports vive/open vr since the day before (patch)

Give the 643 a razz around mugello. Flatout round arrabbiata is pure joy when you punch 7th gear swinging out to the curb at near 200mph, holding on for dear life.

Think I've figured out what's occurring. Firstly, yay thank god AC is working in VR for me now... Secondly, so previous comparisons between AC and PCars have been on my triple screens, importantly when I'm running triples I hide the virtual wheel and driver...so I feel what I feel through the real wheel, PCars felt smooth and AC felt very busy...

Now I'm playing with VR, no virtual wheel and arms would be freaky, and the wheel shakes quite a lot in both games...the difference is that in AC that comes through the FFB to the wheel, in PCars it doesn't ... so basically, what I'm saying is, thanks Darren you've spoiled PCars for me :)

One other thing, the perspective/FOV or something is just not quite right in AC, it's like everything looks too narrow if that makes sense. Will have to play around a bit now it's up and running. FFB aside, Pcars does look stunning, can't wait until I upgrade my PC and increase the SS and detail a bit...

I'm really pleased with AC in VR though...very nice indeed...

Thanks, no I had not tried it. Noticed a difference straight away but braking is screwed. I just touch the brake pedal at 100mph for example and the wheels lock up! Whereas in AC you can have soft or sharp brake feel but still have a level of progression. In some cases bury your foot in the floor makes it feel like you are really working for it. Especially in the old cars.

I still find I get on with AC better overall and even think it looks better in VR. Its not perfect but there is still less disconnect between ac and my steering setup than with PCars. Although it has improved with the tweak files. With further tweaking I'm sure it could be even better.

There are 10 different file sets in the latest version of the tweaker files. There is also a wheel ffb test to find the clipping levels, but I've never run that, I really should now. Braking is the weak point for me in every game...I run Sim Commander and 4 transponders and even with the "simulated brake effects" I still don't know I'm locked up until I overshoot the corner sometimes. I've started cadence braking even in cars with ABS out of necessity.
