Astraweb problems?

none been rock solid using sabnbz :)

I advise all people! who are having issues, to atleast try sabnzbd+, because I was I was getting the same issues as you guys, but as soon as I switched to this client, my issues went away! This was months ago, I put it down to a dodgy client I was using, and I also lowered my connections, as you don't need to use 15 or 20 connections that your provider offers, I am on a 19mb connection, I had 10 enabled on my old client nzbget and had quite a few failed downloads, blocks missing, I switched to sabnzbd and enabled 6 connections, I still got my 19mb download throughput and no problems!, and even if there are issues (I have had 2 in about 90 downloads now) sabnzbd+ has a really good automated fix tool, so "if" it downloads and its fails, which is a very slim chance in my case, sab will complete the download, see that there is some blocks missing, and autorepair it within half a minute or so.

No fuss, no hassle and it has a brilliant web interface which makes it easily accessable locally or remotely.

Give it a go.

i completely agree with sabnzbd - it is a fantastic interface and i love how it does everything so seamlessly and unobtrusively

but for the past 5+ years ive been using astraweb and i have started getting errors on very recent nzb's from all different sources, i even have the US server as the backup option on sabnzbd and that was giving me errors too

thats why today i switched to supernews and so far, i have run those same nzb's that were giving me trouble with astraweb and they completed flawlessly - i even tried some nzb's from 1000+ days and they completed flawlessly too - something that i couldnt say for astraweb

OK, if someone would like to trust me an NZB one that is failing for them and I will test it later this evening

if you send it to my email listed as msn in my trust.

I have used SabNZB before and found it totally OK to use. I was just used to Grabit so stuck with that. On the recommendation of one of the above posters I've just tried a missing part I got on AstraWeb using Grabit through SabNZB instead. Guess what? File came down fine!

So my question is, what client are all you other guys getting problems when using? Might it turn out to be a Grabit issue? Perhaps it is a combo of Grabit and AstraWeb and with it being a bit of both the issue is doubled? I.E. some missing parts are AstraWeb and some other missing parts are failures of Grabit?

I will test more but all I can say from this one quick example is: using AstraWeb for both - Grabit said the part was missing but SabNZB pulled it down fine!

As I suggested. My problems went away when I switched to sab, before that I was using nzbget and had a lot of failed downloads.

Perhaps the solution isn't you switching clients but simply the file being downloaded again?

I've not had more than 1-2 failed downloads in the last 6 months. I'm on Sab.

I'm looking to subscribe to a newsgroup on Friday when the fibre comes in. Astraweb seemed to be a safe bet but I've seen a lot of people with problems lately. Do you think it's best to go with one of the other providers for now?

Been using Alt.binz and Astraweb for the best part of 4 years now and can honestly say that i can count on 1 hand the amount of problems i've had. Bearing in mind my ISP is Talk Talk as well i'd say that is very good going :p

A few of them allow you to buy blocks of bandwidth so your never really stuck with any one provider.

Yes. Supernews.

Alt.binz and Newshosting. No problems for about 5 years other than when trying to get any linux distros disguised as a fat plumber.

Another vote for NewsHosting here. I started getting problems with Astraweb (consistently slower connection) which they had no fix for so I swapped over to NewsHosting and have had no problems since.

Had a lot of problems last weekend, stuff just wasn't downloading!
Even new releases on Astraweb were really flaky.

Will see what its like tonight.

I use the $11 a month deal, and it turns out that they haven't charged me since February :D!

***edit*** will see how it goes this weekend. Hopefully no issues

I used to be with Astraweb and had no problems for ages. I started experiencing the same problems as the OP and in the process of isolating the problem signed up for a 3 day trial of supernews. The problem disappeared so cancelled Astraweb and signed up with Supernews. The same blocks missing in Astraweb downloaded fine from supernews.
