i would really love to work in an Astronaut role but frankly have no idea on how to get into this line of work and am looking for some advice in what to do next. really just looking for what qualifications/courses i would need for this.

cheers!

NASA selects astronauts from a diverse pool of applicants with a wide variety of backgrounds. From the thousands of applications received, only a few are chosen for the intensive Astronaut Candidate training program. Including the “Original Seven”, only 339 astronauts have been selected to date.

Only 339 to date, a few of those will only have got through because they needed spares too.

Maybe email Russia. See what they're up too these days....

Join the army, become fighter jet pilot, become a bloody good pilot, finish army, work as test pilot in jet aircraft, then look at applying to become an astronaut.

Rather simple really. ;)

I think India's relatively newbish space program may be looking for volunteers to simply crash land into the moon.

You might want to try applying for that :D

The only real way for someone not already in the USAF/USN is to become a payload specialist and for that you would really need to be something other than an astronaut first.

Your biggest and probably insurmountable problem is that you need to be a US citizen to be accepted onto the Astronaut Candidate Program added to the fact that the Shuttle program is now defunct as well.

If space is your thing, I would concentrate on a career in cosmology, physics or engineering as being the likeliest pathway to getting into space at some point in the future.

Some of the richest and most successful people on the planet have problems putting sentences together, your point being?
