ASUS ATI RADEON HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD £119.99

Just saw your post in the Asus thread after you edited it,

My Score for first ever bench at stock settings was...

and then... running 999core 5148memory..

I think those are quite good when you consider I'm running a Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.8Ghz on an IP35 Pro motherboard with only has a 16x and a 4x slot, the performance loss is rather low indeed!

yeah it still is comparing to my single 4890 :p

how did you get to 1000 on the core? ccc only goes upto 950 (edit: ah afterburner)

also are you using the stock bios?

Sorry for taking ages to reply, I was outside working ;)

Asus Bios, I did that with the Asus Smartdoctor program. But to be honest.. Afterburner from MSi is a much better program in looks and functionality :)

cheers

i tried giving afterburner a bash but it keeps knocking the speeds back under 960 / 1445
do i have to use the asus bios 1st then can use afterburner?

also has anyone managed 1500 on the mem?

I've been waiting for a decent GPU for ages now, Just about given up on Nvidia, Been trying to get a 5870 at a decent price i.e. £300 but now i find myself tempted by these.

If i bought 2 of these would it be a worthwhile upgrade from a GTX 280, I mostly play CSS, MW2 and Grid?

Mine has just arrived, not allowed it until xmas unfortunately (present :() but I had a quick look to check everything was there. I'm sure this is an incredibly nooblike question but the power cable it comes with is really, really short. I have a Lian-Li V1000+ case so the graphics card is at the top, PSU at the bottom. The cable the card comes with seems to have one end going into the card and then it splits into two going into the PSU? Does this mean I can't just use the cable I'm currently using? (on my X1950) If not then is it easy to get a longer cable that the Asus could use?

EDIT: I knew I was being a noob, browsing round the store has enlightened me to the fact that it is a 4 pin to 6 pin adaptor :o

Personally would keep waiting for the 5870's to drop in price a 2 5770's in crossfire are faster but not £100~ faster which it will cost you to buy 2 5770's after selling your GTX.

Is The ausu 5770 card the next best 5770 on the market after the the vapor x card?
dont think i can wait much longer!

My Asus 5770 arrived today! Very happy, put it in and I did a 3D vantage test. Looking at other ratings in the thread I was expecting something good, but seem to be getting quite a lot lower. I got 7846 GPU score. My RAM and CPU are fairly old now (pc2-6400 2gb ram and e6300 processor at stock) so I have a feeling they'll have an effect on the score, but really that much...? I updated to the 9.11 Catalyst drivers too btw.

edit: ok I'm fairly sure my CPU is majorly bottlenecking my system. Loading up Afterburner while playing a game, it says GPU usage only at 25% whereas CPU at 100%. Could someone with a bit of knowledge confirm this for me?

Yes, Just like 3DMark06 a faster cpu* will make a dramatic difference to your Vantage score (especially as the latter splits the scores between GPU and CPU).

*Quad core also makes a big difference.

If you overclock your E6300 to around 2.8ghz (I assume its the original 1.83Ghz E6300 not the newer Pentium dual core model?) you should notice a big difference in Vantage (and possibly gaming) performance (where you are currently CPU limited).

looks like most of them now are the egg eds

glad i got the shrouds when i did

... but if you buy one now you get a spooky ruby doll lol

Yeah I got the shroud version as well (ASUS). I guess these "egg" cards dump heat into the case, rather than out of it.

Yep. My case temps have gone up by around 10 degrees. Card maxxes out at 61 degrees at max load with the fan hitting only 36% so they are quiet. I took the plastic cover off my cooler, refitted the cooler using MX-2 and fitted ramsinks to the memory and made a heatsink for the vrm's. Going to get a couple of waterblocks soon to get rid of the extra heat.
