Asus gtx 480

whats the frame rate like in crysis2 if you have it ?

I have it, I'll just check for you (I played it through with GTX460 2GB SLI). It'll be at 2560x1600 though...

Edit:

On Very High, at 2560x1600, I'm getting a good 40-50 FPS average, and it's smooth, never drops below about 38. This was on the rooftop level. That's with the rig in sig, but the i7 is not overclocked at the moment.

my 6970 drops to 32fps @1080p with temps of upto 98.5c with fan on auto (82c with afterburner fan profile), what temps are you getting with the stock gtx 480 ?

Was that on Very High or Extreme though?

Also, my fan profile is quite aggressive (and loud, but I use headphones :p), but the max temperature seen after ~15 minutes was 75°C, but to be fair, it's open (as in I have no case right now).

On very high settings at 1920x1080 I'm averaging 80FPS and the temp doesn't budge over 54. That's at 30% fan speed. The cooler on this thing is awesome :D

To be honest a GTX480 is no better than a 6970, so I'd stick with. If the cooler is annoying, you could always get an aftermarket cooler for it.

i missed that lol (sorry) , nice temps

Hehe np. Glad I bought it now as the temps are stunning. I was very close to getting one of the Gigabyte SOC's, but as there is a very large parts retailer only 2 mins from where I work, I was loathe to pay the delivery from OcUK and sit around waiting.

Luckily they dropped the prices on these KFA2's on the day before I was going to place my order! Think they were around the £280 mark beforehand.

now thats a large drop in price

Aye. I may be a bit out as I remember thinking it was above my budget but it was definately above £250 and I seem to have £279.99 stuck in my head.

That's nothing though, they still have some 480's on there for well over £300, one of them not too far off £400 in fact. For the life of me I can't understand why

thats the same thing as with some of the places that still have 5870 stock , over £300 which is beyond a joke tbh . they do not seem to want to shift stock they have left tbh , a bit like ocuk with the B-Grade gtx295's at nearly £400 still

Oh wow! At 30% fan speed under load you get 54c TEMPS? that's CRAZY on a 480... I dont even know a 460 that could manage those temps despite being an awesomely cool card. :S

the gtx480 will run most things maxed at 1080p, and the only games that don't are the games which are famed for bringing computers to their knees (think: Metro 2033). Go for the Gigabyte of KFA2 ones though, avoid the reference cards like the plague (very hot/loud).

As was said above though, if you already have a 6950/6970, there's not really any point in getting a gtx480. If you get the 480, you'll have roughly the same performance from a card that runs hotter and uses more juice, not to mention possible headaches caused by the failure rates of the Gigabyte/KFA2 cards and the crapulence of the reference cooler. From this point, for an upgrade you're looking at a gtx580 or a multi-gpu setup

well my 6970 runs 98.5c @ stock fan speeds in crysis2 and any other dx9 game , so do they run hotter that that ?

What case do you have, what fan set up, what CPU cooler, in what config etc? Have you tried removing the cooler and reapplying thermal paste on the core? Many cards have thick sludgy crap instead of thermal paste, so replacing it should drop temps a few degrees.

have replaced the TIM with mx4 , case i now have is the Lian Li PC-B70 . using the coolit eco alc with push pull 120mm venom pwm fans , case is using the stock fans that come with the case apart from where the eco is mounted (2x 140mm lian li fans and 1x 120mm lian li fan ) . temps below (1090T cpu @3.6ghz)
