ASUS MAXIMUS III Formula Review

Seriously? Is that all I have to do? Just shut down the system, open the plate up and click the OC button on the motherboard?

If so it's simplicity! and AWESOME!!!!

But, I would want to do it manually so I can LEARN and clock it higher to 4GHZ.

If any of you guys want to know anything about this motherboard or how to go about overclocking it then please post and I will gladly help, the board is so easy to overclock anyway and will not be hard to hit 4Gig with air cooling, there are a few profiles within the bios and windows software that will give you stable overclocks instantly with a click of the button, but I always find the best settings comes from a few tweaks within the bios so as said anyone wanting help just post and I will do my best to help out.

Just ordered the Asus Maximus this morning with an i7 860 and 4gb of the Gskill Ripjaws 2000mhz ddr3. I won't see it till thursday being over in Spain but damn I'm excited. I also have a Noctua cooler on the way. So I hope to post some results once I get cracking.

Cheers Sacha35 for your review which sealed the decision for me :)

How about the Asus Rampage II extreme sacha35? Any chance you can give us a hint on how to have a stable 4.0 / 4.2 OC on air? There's a lot of parameters in the bios which seems no one dared touch yet but which I believe could provide a much more effecient OC in terms of voltage/performance troughput.

Yes, I was going to message you on how to overclock whilst using this motherboard. With your support I may be able to gain knowledge and fulfill my needs to overclocking with stability.

I'm currently on stock cooler using the i7 860 with Geil Ultra 4GB ram. I'm new to overclocking so any help or advice will be appreciated.

Give me a few days to put something together, if you want anything pacific please post and I will add it in with some overclock settings.

Thank you Sacha, you've been a great member which I'm gaining knowledge and support because of you. I got my setup down to your review mostly, which I'm very impressed.

Asus Maximus Formula III
I7 860 @ stock
4GB Geil Ultra series

Hopefully, you do something with this to clock it to 4GHZ or beyond! I'm scared to overclock as I don't want to damage it, as it's going to be my first time and I'm completely CLUELESS at this!

I HIGHLY recommend getting a better cooler first before you do so. You won't even get close to 4GHZ without a decent one. I recommend getting the Corsair H50.

Asus Rampage II Extreme
I7 920 DO

Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Cooler (Push/Pull)
Asus GeForce GTX 285 1024MB GDDR3
Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 1000W ATX2.2
Antec 1200

A stable and cooler 4.0/4.2 voltage/parameter settings would be appreciated very much. Thanks in advance.

Could you put something together for me to clock 4/4.2 GHZ?

ANd yes I will buy a cooler but I need one recommended for the job.

quick up date the bracket for the h50 comes out on the 12th oct offical from corsair with a new revison part number will be CWCH50-1 so make sure if you order it it is this 1..

im interested how the 860 performs on the MAxmimus III, Ive seen people hittingf 4-4.5 on airand water on the MSI GD80 and if the MAximus Performs well with the 860 ill chip in another £20 extra and get it (plus its black and red which makes it pretty!)

I finally got to put my system together saturday. This motherboard is the best I've ever experienced and everything worked first time. The only problem I had was with the spdif connection from the Supreme FX to my GTX 260. I was getting no sound via hdmi to my telly.

I managed to fix that last night so just incase anyone else has the same problem here is the fix. The via driver on the Asus site (version 6) doesn't allow spdif sound. If you get the version 7 driver via Viatech's site it works!

I haven't overclocked anything as yet to allow things to bed in thermal wise. Temperatures with the Noctua cooler seem very good at stock.

i,m looking forward to getting this board with the oc controller for me new build in a few weeks, getting itchy fingers now on the buy it now, just wish nvidia would releease the gtx300 soon thats all i,m waiting on is a date..;)
