Asus Motherboad and more than 1 slot of RAM

Is it not something to do with 32/64 bit versions of windows?

I presume it isn't since no one has mentioned it yet but I know that <2GB= 32 bit needed and >4GB= 64 bit needed. I presume a 32 version of windows might behave like this once you try to add 4GB or more.

edit: oh sorry, jusrt seen you had installed the 64 bit versions, nevermind. I thought 64 bit wouldn't work with only 2GB?

64bit just increase the amount of ram the system can handle, as it can address a 64bit space and not a 32bit space (or something....)

Although vista64 had a software limitation of 128gb, which is no where near the actual limitation of 64bit.

Hi does it if you havent tried it work with 2x1gb? also does the one stick work in other slots?has could be a controller problem with slots? just trying to think back from when i had prob with my ram and other things i came across? from what i remember you only need to up voltage if all slots are populated and only by .05 ish? you could check northbridge volts as that controls ram.
Plus just looking are you sure that that board can support more than 2gb as that if im looking correctly is the one with ddr2 and ddr3 slots?

he i susing 2gb sticks, not 1gb sticks, hence being able to use 4gb. He will obviously only be using the black slots because the other are ddr3 and as such will have teh "notch" in the ram in a different place, meaning nothing but ddr3 would fit in the other slots.

The black slots are for DDR2 over 1060MHZ if my memory serves me right, the red slots are for DDR3 and the slots im using are normal DDR2 (yellow ones)

So basically i might try putting them in the black slots, see what happened, ive uppped the voltage already, but will look into the NB voltage and see if that cures anything, its getting a but of a nuicense now and i just really fancy giving up!
