ASUS p8p67 Pro - Will not boot

I would really like to contribute some hands on experience with the PRO board, but unfortunately, after one successful post and brief look at the BIOS, my flash attempt restarted the computer into a persistent red VGA LED.

Simon mentioned that it seems a lot of users having problems are using ATi.

Well for me, the VGA red light stays on, and I get no speaker beep warning that a VGA card is missing(yes, my case speaker works fine. If I remove all RAM sticks I get the expected beep).

Nope. Its not just ATI cards. I too have had the same problem with GTX470. I've had the vga led, the dram led, the cold boot, auto voltage over compensating issue, you name it i've had it.

Even on the rare (thats two) instances that I've got it stable for a short while a few hours later, no changes just decides not to boot again. And when this happens I dont get any leds on the board, it powers up, keyboard and mouse light up then nothing.

I have tried all the ram combinations, manual setting stock volts, auto's, defaults the lot. I've tried all the available bios versions etc - Its currently booted into windows but i daren't reboot for fear I'll have another 2 hours of fiddling around before it decides to boot again. Stupid thing is once it posts its rock solid.

I cannot wait for the MSI board to turn up instead. I've had nothing but trouble with Asus in the past and it had been such a long time since I last had thier stuff I took a gamble - something I shall never do again.

Rust,

Which MSI you going for?
I have a 5 model lying around here that a friend bought and changed his mind about, going to the Gigabyte UD5 instead.

I heard MSI are still a good board option in terms of features(sans the Bluetooth), though the overclock ceiling is a bit lower than the ASUS.

That and they don't have as good of a monitoring software suite.

I am tempted to rip open the MSI and test my VGA red light issue with that board.
But I wonder if I should wait until I've been told I can RMA the Asus first!

I'm using a gtx 580 so just a coincidence about the ati thing, I've also used my spare gpu the 9800 gtx, I think I'll go for the msi p67a-gd65 as it has the same amount of sata ports, it fails in the looks compared to the asus one but if it works correct I'll be a happy chappy :).

If I wasn't in the middle of a mod I'd be patient enough to have the shop update the bios or switch it for another of the same but with an updated bios to be safe, but this board has side tracked me for 3 days now so just want a different brand board.

Another thing that bothers me with building your own pc is memory compatibility, this recomended type is a PITA, lols even memory with an AMD logo on is on the approved checklist on the msi & asus site & seems they don't test all memory so the checklist is fairly pointless.

I've gone with the MSI P67A-GD65. It was always a toss up between the two anyway but I prefered the EFI layout on the Asus and took the gamble.

As so many people have the same issues, not only here but elsewhere im convinced its not hardware at fault but either BIOS or memory compatibility or both - despite my XMS3 on the qualified list. As above, I think the list is utterly pointless.

And suggestions from Asus on they're own forums reference the 3-4 reboots before it posts being "normal behaviour" just takes the biscuit imo...

Hey guys,

First post here and hopefully I can provide a little help to the headaches this board is giving you all ! I am currently specing a new system for myself and had included this board in my build only to research into it and come across problems :(
I found this on the asus forums and its worth a shot for those having similar issues......

Let me know if it helps anyone

Clear RTC RAM procedure

1. Turn OFF the computer and unplug the power cord.
2. Move the jumper cap from pins 1-2 (default) to pins 2-3. Keep the cap on pins 2-3 for about 5–10 seconds, then move the cap back to pins 1-2.

3. Plug the power cord and turn ON the computer.
4. Hold down the "Del" key during the boot process and enter BIOS setup to re-enter data.

*If the steps above do not help, remove the onboard battery and move the jumper again to clear the CMOS RTC RAM data. After the CMOS clearance, reinstall the battery.

yup - done that, just about any time i get the thing to post and change any bios setting that what it takes to get it to boot.

I am actually having a little more joy with the ram in slots A1 and B1 rather than following the Asus manual.

But now I've had another issue.... got it to post after battery out defaults etc, boots and its at 4.4ghz 1.39v ?! 104 BLCK?! Immediatley reboot, manually set 1.25v and stock speeds 100 BLCK, reboot again and its got all the right multi etc but still 103 BCLK, ai tuner set to manual.

The thing has a mind of its own and dont trust it one bit. After another reboot and setting volts, multi, clocks etc again it appears to have settled down. I just want the thing run stock stable and reboot successfully when i ask it to. Surely not too much to ask of Asus...

I'm having problems too now, uggggh!!
i seem to have no post, blank screen in black colour.
It was working till the point i just changed my Geil rans from 1333mhz to 1600mhz, and then the scary motherboard just didn't want to startup. The fans are all working, iv tried cmos million and two times, i even took out battery and cmos, but to no avail.

stick the ram in slots A1 and B1 (the black ones) its got me more stable, as in it posts and boots ok about 75% of the time now. Although this has introduced another issue - even setting my ram at 1600 it just ignores the setting and puts it at 1333.

Possibly the most shoddy disappointing piece of hardware iv'e owned in years...

Tried slotting rams into (1st Black + 1st Blue), but still no progress. Hmmm, i rebuilt the whole system again, to see for loose cables, but still black screen.
Is this the right approach to CMOS shifting:

1. Turn all power off, take power plug out too.

2. Swap the cap from 1+2, to 2+3 for between 5 to 10 seconds. (does it matter if it goes beyond 10 seconds?)

3. Place cap back to 1+2, then plug in power cable and startup.

??

I have also took out the battery after step 1 also. Made no difference. :0

I have the EXACT same thing, worked fine for a bit.

Didn't flash though.

Hi Adam, I got your post on my thread, I have replied to you there also, sorry to hear you have the same no post problem as me.
I don't think its GPU as mine works fine in my old machine, plus I tried it without a Graphics card in and I still get the MEM light on. I get new ram and CPU today! my guess now is CPU as you have tried different mem.

Had the same myself. Make sure you've removed all expansion cards, then clear the CMOS by popping out the battery and then shorting the jumper next to it for 10-15 seconds, then try it again. This seemed to clear it for me.

I wish I had read this before ordering mine  It's due today(tuesday)

I might rma it without opening the box & go for the msi a m8 suggested instead. I've never had an issue with Asus before but all these issues with this board on many forums, not just this one...

Really sorry to re-open an old thread, but this was very helpful and hopefully help people out if they have the problem mentioned.

I had a constant DRAM LED light on boot, i couldnt get it to BOOT at all. I reseated my RAM, I think someone suggested making sure it clicks in twice. I pushed the RAM in to the left hand side first, then allowed the grey pin to lock it in place when pushing down on the right hand side. I also changed my SATA cables around, removed the SATA to the front of the case. Left my HDD on SATA1 and then replaced SATA2 to DVD drive. Which was previously on SATA3.

Then as if by magic, it booted! Installing windows now :)
