Asus ROG Swift PG32UQX - 32" 4K, 144Hz, HDR-1400, G-Sync, 1152 Mini-LED zones

This is HDR

And this is "HDR400"

No wonder marketing keeps inventing fancy acronyms, because neither looks that great:
One has under exposed shadows, other over exposed highlights.

Guess that's same as in when someone takes ****** pictures, they call those art pictures.

Keep in mind the video was recorded off screen using an SDR camera and uploaded to youtube in SDR, so neither is representative of exactly what you will see in real life

I'm sorry to hassle you @NikTheSHNIK . Other vendors have no clear ETA on this, any news from your end? Even down to a week range, or is it still not clear?

Got 5 or 6 units arriving next week hopefully (w/c 05/07/21) and then another 10 or so a week or 2 later.

The first 5 should cover orders up to the 18/06.

Take with a pinch of salt as haulage is crazy at the moment.

Fingers crossed! Especially as a certain devilishly handsome customer ordered around that date....

I take it no Haribo this time cos haulage!

While the lack of Haribo is terrible (due to lack of drivers stemming from this governments WA choices), the cost of containers shipping from China to Europe going from $5K to $17K is way worse.

We'll probably see every RRP increasing by £10 odd soon. With larger items increasing more!

Say you could fit 1000 monitors in a container and it cost $5K that's $5 cost per item. Now at $17K per container thats $17 per item.

Well, it arrived! There is indeed halo'ing when you have intense white on black, but honestly, you have to really look for it in most cases. I also wear glasses, so accept a bit of halo'ing anyway! Loading up Destiny 2 for a minute, I could see it around the cursor on the pure black background, but in-game, it's just not noticeable.

More testing tonight after a proper setup.

Mine arrived this morning - really impressed with it! I moved from a27" ASUS predator 1440p 144hz IPS monitor.

Out of the box it has the firmware that supports Freesync over the displayport, so no need to update the firmware for that (I'm using a 6900XT and VRR range for freesync is reported as 1-144hz). I looked at the HDR videos referenced in the tftcentral review and they look amazing. Yes if you look for blooming on the christmas lights video you will see it - I didn't notice it at first and only spotted it when looking for it. The other thing is that the blooming only takes that area of the display to the same contrast you'd get from a non FALD display, and it is limited to where the lights are, so in my opinion it's good.

Running the UFO test the blur isn't anywhere near as bad as I'd been led to believe. Is it there? yes. Is it noticable if you're not looking for it specifically? not in my use/testing so far. I'll come back later with more thoughts but out of the box I'm super impressed!

The OLED has an annoying logo flash across it even if you only want one stat to be shown. They need to release an update to turn that off as the motion on it is distracting.

As an aside holy hell windows have made it hard to get to the setting for monitor refresh rates. Defaulted to 60hz and had to dig and dig to find the option to enable 144hz.

Edit

Found a dead pixel :( Hopefully will be able to fix it as my old monitor had none and I won't be happy if a 3k monitor has dead pixels that I can't fix.

Cant do much about dead pixels, panels not usually accepted until they get up there in number

I received mine this morning and have been putting it through its paces on my Xbox SX and PS5. It’s absolutely stunning and so far I’m very happy with it. Haven’t noticed any blooming really but then I’m not looking for it I’m just playing my games. The HDR is unbelievable

Ok so some things I've found out:

- HDR works fine in windows for me - nice and bright, although I don't have a dark background
- There are some colours (grays especially) where the blooming becomes nightmarish across the whole screen if the game's HDR brightness is set too high. I don't have issues with a small white icon over a black background, but make that background certain grays or light browns and it goes crazy bad if the brightness is where the game settings tell you to set it. Need to look at this more as it looks like one of the YT videos where the poster claims Asus saying it was a hardware defect but I feel it;s game engines setting things way too bright. Space games like star citizen are fine with starry backgrounds so it seems to be some colour range that the FALD algorithm is really bad at working with combined with very high brightness settings.
- Now onto my biggest issue - not sure if it's GPU end or monitor end but running in Freesync 4k @144hz in Playerunknown's Battlegrounds results in a grey screen with short random blue lines. Game is running in the background so PC is clearly running still. One one occasion I've had the AMD driver recovery bring me back, but the other 15 or so times it's unrecoverable without rebooting PC (restarting monitor does not fix it). It seems tied to DSC & Freesync - if I set the monitor to 120hz (where DSC will be disabled) or disable freesync I don't have any issues at all. Now I have no way to test to see if it is my RX 6900 XT with the issue, or if it is the monitor, as I don't have any other cards that support DSC to hand. I've disabled all overclocks, I've set it to 8-bit instead of 10 bit colour depth, HDR on and off, but I cannot get the game to run fullscreen 144hz in 4k with Freesync enabled. I'd love to see if others (especially AMD users) are having the same issues as I don't know if it's a card/driver/monitor fault (both card and monitor are within return window so if it's a hardware fault I'd love to know which one it is!)

Blooming and how to reduce it on high contrast scenes eg bright star in night sky is one thing but the blooming you describe with near blacks is still an issue it's tough even for OLED - you want to strike a balance between not crushing the dark areas of the screen and not blowing out the brightness and it's not easy and what you described about blooming being worse the higher the brightness gets, yes that is normal too - all FALD struggle with it and you can reduce issue by just lowering brightness so that the difference between bright and dark areas gets smaller and it's easier for the FALD to work

Yea when In hdr peak brightness says 1400 nits but contrast at 50 which can be moved up or down. When moved up the screen goes much brighter, I’ve put mine up to about 75 and it looks awsome but didn’t know If I should.

Anyone else running this with an AMD GPU? I'm desperately looking for someone else to confirm if having 144hz and Freesync enabled at the same time with an AMD GPU causes the grey screen freeze when loading high FPS games, but as these are so new I can't seem to find anyone with that kind of combo.

Interesting; I've noticed the contrast setting on the monitor doesn't clip colors till you get about 68 on the dial. Usually once you go over the default setting of "50" or whatever the monitor uses, it will clip the colors ruining the picture. This means if you set "68" on the HDR contrast, you get more eye searing HDR! I wouldn't go above 68 as it will clip on the test here:

Sorry, nvidia
