Asus RX480 Dual problems

I'm going to
You're having a tough time of it...

I hate to say this but again you need to try a 'full release' game that's been patched to the eyeballs - e.g. battlefield 1/4, Farcry 3/4, Blackops etc... Basically any big backed game that's gfx demanding and has had resources thrown at it to make sure it's compatible with mainstream cards.

If it still gets artifacts, with a full release title (fully patched), and BIOS set to defaults etc (nothing clocked) - then you would certainly have to begin to suspect your card.
You're right on this. I do need stress the card another way. Research has also found other AMD users with the same artefacts: http://forums.playbattlegrounds.com/topic/4689-black-boxesshadow-bugartifacts/

I now feel better about those, but the crashes are infuriating!

Yeah especially when stock and not overclocked in any way at all. I'm now going to loop the Heaven demo/benchmark whilst I'm painting a bedroom.

Of course when I am done, I can't play what I want :(

Thanks for your help so far mate.

No problem.

That game is very popular for early access so hopefully the developers will keep on top of it and AMD will likewise include fixes within their driver releases as it becomes more stable. So, if your card doesn't prove faulty, you shouldn't have that long to wait...

And decorating as well as troubleshooting - that is no way to spend a weekend - but sadly again I can relate...

LOL yeah, but needs must!

Anyway, all I can say is that my system is stable through hours of Unigine demos where it draws around 250W from the wall. I have read of people having PSU problems with the RX 480.

I shall try some other games (ArmA 3 and maybe some BF4) tomorrow after I am done painting the other bedroom!

i'm interested to hear how you got on. i've not had any issues with mine so far (fingers crossed - i was ready to return the card) no crashes or anything on a very old rig (i7-920k, gigabyte ga58-ud5 & 6gb ocz ram powered by a corsair hx 450w)
i've not touched the clock speeds or voltage whatsoever
noise wise i can hear a slightly louder fan under load but its nothing i'm worried about as i game with headphones

No games played as of yet. However, what I have done is run Unigine Heaven and Prime95 concurrently for over 3 hours with no issues. After reading up on undervolting the card, I did a little and changed State 7 to 1325Mhz. The card ran solidly at that speed:

Here are my settings in Radeon Settings:

I hope this translates to stability in games now that I have finished painting the other bedroom!

The card generates slightly less noise with these settings. However, I am still not happy with the noise it produces. I'm tempted to move the Acceloro Plus that's on my 670 over.

It's looking good roadie (using and abusing in games will be the true test when all components are used) - seems more like a preference dilemma now...

I haven't altered my watman settings yet but iirc on one of the other threads it was recomended to raise the target temperature to 74? to reduce fan noise.

If I set my voltages to manual it shows 1150 for 6 and 7 and 1156 for 5.

Well a few hours of ArmA 3 and BF4 passed without any ill effects. Looks like my card is not a dud.

I reckon having the target temperature at 74 degrees would make it rather toasty under load. Mine was reaching 76 with a target temperature of 65 under Heaven. However, in game temps have been mid 60s.

I will start to clock my CPU and RAM back up to see if that introduces any instability.

Those voltages are very low.

Mine are even lower. Max for my XFX GTR is 1061. With target temp of 75.

It was running down at 1050, but more recent drivers seem to be slightly unstable with it so low.

But I've had it about 6 months now and it's been solid.

For stage 5 boost of 1225MHz my card runs at 1175mv stock. I've tried undervolting to 1125mv and if anything it crashes more often. Think its just a true lemon of a card.

How are you reading boost speeds at different stages? The only thing I have done so far is run gpuz while Elite Dangerous was running and gpuz reports the clock speed as 1305 at stock.

I was holding off hoping the RX580's would be a nice jump in base clocks, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

So I've bought what I believe to be a bargain XFX GTR Black Edition, part number RX-480P8DBA6.
